I get his accent probably is hammed up for TV, but he's otherwise been a goofy non-polarizing figure on ESPN.

Don't think the hate is mostly aimed at Marty but rather ESPN for pushing caricature narratives.

The fact he's been tagged as the typical Southern male pisses me off. ESPN throws him out there like they've got a guy we can relate to.

I care about how the country looks at the South, but moreso, it just bothers me when they have no idea and just assume we're all like a guy like Marty Smith.

I have no issue with Marty Smith but he did damage himself amongst southerners when he was so quick to condemn NASCAR fans over the noose debacle which turned out to be nothing.

He is up and down. Sometimes he doesn't come on like a huge try hard and he is ok. Other times, the try hard is so strong I just can't.
