I have family in Columbia and I'm going to Mizzou for the Ph. D. in a couple years.

I get that too. But those schools where my experiences are usually bad (Bama, UGA) I don't root for. I know LSU fans can be obnoxious, but I think they're funny and I've had good times with them. Same for most other programs in the SEC/south.

There's more than two groups here. I would put it on a scale of SEC fanhood.

0 - actively hates the SEC and will root against all other SEC teams with a vested interest
1 - dislikes the SEC and will root against them casually, but doesn't really give a frick either way
2 - truly does not give a frick how the SEC does outside their own team
3 - likes the SEC and will root for them casually, but doesn't really give a frick either way
4 - loves the SEC and actively roots for other SEC teams with a vested interest as if it's their own team




I would fall into 3. I would think most everyone who has ever done the SEC!SEC!SEC! chant would fall into 3. I can't imagine someone being in number 4. That's crazy

3 works for me as well, although it is more of a regional/familiarity situation than any conference loyalty.

If there were not a frickton of Mizzou posters on here, I would probably be leery of supporting them (no familiarity). I like, to some extent, most groups of folks I meet. I just assume everyone else blows.

A lot of this conversation is hyperbole. Very few people here think of it as: ''Good luck in the NCG Auburn/Missouri'' and confuse it with ''I'M A MISSOURI/AUBURN FAN.'' Caricaturing, for sure.

When I go to games the opposing fans are always cool , other than the Egg Bowl.... But that's because most people I meet at the games donate $ to the school, have a degree from said school and/or are pretty level headed people... It's thesidewalker , skank message board/twitter heroes that are awful cause so few of them can actually afford to buy tickets and still feed and clothe their families.


As far as the SEC!SEC!SEC! Chant... It's just something to troll the opposing fans in the stadium cause they hate it so much... If the chant I EAT shite! I EAT shite! I EAT shite ! Made Big 12 and Big 10 fans angry I'd chant that too

Yeah. I will root for SEC teams but it has nothing to do with them being SEC. The tards who root for their rivals just because is fricking dumb.

I am between 3 and 4.

I sincerely want SEC teams to do well, and receive good rankings. Mizzou would never have hit 5 with a 6-0 record in Big 12 or 10. (Not enough ranked competition)I am gonna root for SEC over non conference every time. When SEC vs SEC, I will root for East division. I can be extremely disappointed with a Mizzou loss, but won't lose sleep over another SEC team's loss. If it is east vs east will be rooting for one that helps Mizzou, if that is possible.
