It's about security and respect. With the LSU offense in the tank, Chavis feels like he has leverage. So he made demands. Money was not the deal-breaker. The deal breaker was that Chavis wanted TWO things that LSU would not give him.
1. A 4 year guaranteed contract. LSU offered three.
2. A contract that was not tied to Les staying at LSU. He wanted to be guaranteed even IF Les left. That's not usually how it goes. A&M was willing to give him this.
In the end Chavis is going to regret this. Aggie culture is a bit um different and Sumlin is FAR from a guarantee at A&M. His ego is making this decision for him. He loves LSU and he loves his kids.
If he wants to go, I say bid him a fond farewell, thank him for leaving us better than he found us, hire another great Defensive coordinator and then beat his Aggie arse for the next five years.

He has leverage because yall finished 3rd in the country in scoring defense and without him you would've gone 5-7

LSU football is about to enter one of the most pivotal eras in quite some time. This DC hire is so big and we have one of the most incompetent AD's leading the charge. THAT'S what I'm scared of.

I love how everyone picked Steele out of the list to laugh at. You can't say everyone is hating on him just because LSU chose him, that's for sure.
