fully customizable
Unless they have a plan in place to prevent the "customization" of someone loading all the real names and teams into the game they are going to get sued.

How could they be held liable?

This is being done in other games and there aren't any issues I have seen.

So what? People can sue for anything. Doesn't mean their case has any merit.

Yeah, I don't think that would hold up. Wasn't there some part of the O'Bannon case that expired recently opening this possibility back up anyway? Notice that they plan to go after licensing.

Well obviously they can't show real teams in anything official. But I'm sure it won't take long after release until you can download realistic teams and rosters that people have customized. As long as they get the gameplay right that's what matters, and theres still plenty of time to work on that.

Right, there is a big difference between using the players and schools.

IIRC this was an issue in one of the lawsuits and the judge made it sound like EA could/should have done more. Meaning having Junior "QB #2" for Alabama who is 6'2 and has dreadlocks, which is basically what EA were doing for star players, would not be permissible. It was unclear how the judge would have reacted to a truly random roster with full editing customization but it was left as an open question.
this is all from memory so i may be forgetting something but thats how i remember it going.

That is what I remember as well. I think it would be difficult going after the company for allowing customization that would in turn allow users to create the NCAA rosters. I guess there is an argument there but I don't think it is a very strong one. I guess if a game like this got big enough it would become a bigger issue again because they aren't going after the companies that are doing something similar right now.
