We haven't even completed 8 years of playoffs yet and have already tripled it in size.

How long until they see how much money this makes before we expand again to 16? You know it's gonna happen eventually.

I wonder if this means conference playoffs will become a relic of the past. Perhaps thats why sanky was talking about no divisions?

Considering the FCS is at 24 that seems like where it will end up at in the end TBH

If they are going to 12 (likely 16 soon because 12 is a bit unwieldy) I think conference championships are going to go the way of the dodo bird. Playoff teams are going to be trying to get out of playing an extra game at that point.

Well, if we're doing this I hope the power 5 drop their creampuff games. From that perspective, at least we'll get more good football games throughout the year. I don't really like the expansion, but I'm trying to look at from the bright side.

The Utes had Saban's number once when they took them lightly. What was that, a Sugar Bowl?

And bowl games will have even less meaning than they now have. Good riddance.

Still think we're (eventually) headed to four 16-team super conferences with NFL-like divisional schedules and playoffs.

Teams perpetually ranked 65+ play good football, but really need to form their own league, which could possibly envelop and maintain the current bowl system.

Good, I am for this change. More games against teams you likely would never play otherwise. The top dogs will still stay at the top. Coaching matters, facilities matter, NIL money matters.

Yep, 2009 Sugar Bowl (2008 regular season).

Utah scored 21 points in the 1Q and won 31-17.

They finished that season as the only undefeated team in the nation.

I hate it because it's illogical.

However it ensures that we will make the playoffs pretty much every year kirby is here.

So not sure exactly what angle you're going for?

Should just go ahead and make it 16. Kinda silly not to if you’re going to go to 12. You won’t be adding any extra weeks and there isn’t much difference between teams 9-16.

And didn't claim a National Championship. UCF take note.

Yes! The covid year, all- SEC games, was the best season in memory. All good games. Those still make money though, as does the SEC championship game, and this change is about making money. College basketball, even baseball, and all the pro leagues have been making lots of money for years. Really surprised that it has taken college football so long to see the light.

I agree, unless they specifically designate that P5 conference winners get auto-bids if they win a conference championship.

I don't because the two strongest conferences (SEC and B1G) gain nothing by giving seats at the table to any of the PAC, Big 12, or ACC. We are heading toward two 20 or 24 team super conferences and the PAC Big 12, and ACC are going to start to resemble G5 conferences.

I still think Notre Dame is going to end up in the B1G within a few seasons because they won't be able to generate the kind of revenue they need to compete long-term on their own. I am shocked that the B1G hasn't invited Washington and Oregon already. And the prizes of the ACC will end up in the SEC once their grant of rights expires. Clemson and FSU have both publicly begged for a seat at the SEC table recently.
