I wonder if this means conference playoffs will become a relic of the past. Perhaps thats why sanky was talking about no divisions?
Under this setup my guess is they stay. Reason is they can reward conf champions with the bye week since 1-4 won’t play in first round of playoffs.
One quirk is teams 5-12 where top seeds get home playoff game which is a massive revenue maker. Some team ranked 4 (and on a bye week) might lobby to get pushed down to get an extra home game? The final 8 (4 games) will be in bowl games I assume so no home game? If true then teams 5-8 will be only ones with home game and extra revenue. Unless round 2 is top 4 teams playing at home then it equalizes.

How long until they see how much money this makes before we expand again to 16? You know it's gonna happen eventually.

If they are going to 12 (likely 16 soon because 12 is a bit unwieldy) I think conference championships are going to go the way of the dodo bird. Playoff teams are going to be trying to get out of playing an extra game at that point.
You mean the conf championship game would go away? And the conf champ would be based on record?
Seems more fair than teams sitting at home during the CCG and still able to play in the playoffs/NCG with extra week of rest. That’s some bullshite.

Maybe this will keep more players from sitting out bowl games. It’s getting pretty ridiculous.

So will just be the top 12 ranked teams and no automatic bids based on conference champs?

I sort of like it sort of hate it. The G5’s don’t deserve an automatic qualification. I like how it does add some value to Conference titles but doesn’t make it the end all be all. Hopefully this encourages people to actually schedule decent competition (looking at you Michigan and TCU)

And bowl games will have even less meaning than they now have. Good riddance.
Meh, once every backwater two bit railroad stop got a bowl game they stopped having meaning
