Didn’t the bear Bryan have like 200 players on his teams

Back in those days they had like 100 freshman or something crazy like that, and they played on the freshman team because freshman were not allowed to play on the main team.

Changed in the early 70s.

True.

Would Saban and Bear have as much success as they have/did if they would’ve coached anywhere other than Bama? Always been an interesting thought experiment to me.

Since you seem to frequently ponder the success of Alabama coaches, what's your conclusion here?

Frequently? Perhaps.

Saban was well on his way at LSU

Bear is before my time but it seems like he would’ve crushed it nearly anywhere

I think they would have. I believe their management is what made/makes them great coaches. I don't think it was just their knowledge of the game that makes them great. There are a lot of coaches that have great x and o knowledge but aren't at their level. Their leadership would transform any team.

Agreed. Saban’s greatest strengths are 1) being the GOAT recruiter and 2) convincing his players to stick around for another year to up their draft position.

Deadly combo.

Bear was before my time so I can’t really comment on him

Bear won at Maryland, Kentucky, and aTm. Hell, he took UK to the Orange, Sugar, and Cotton bowls in the late 40’s-early 50’s. I believe he still ranks pretty high on their list for all time wins. Helluva coach.

Saban’s pretty good, too.

That’s my point, and it’s not to belittle yalls incredible achievements.

Y’all had GOAT 1A and GOAT 1B

Saban’s run has been more impressive imo

History won’t remember auburn 2010 or LSU 2019.

History will remember the retarded historic run bama has been on. It’s disgusting and I hate it.

I agree. The playing field is a lot more level now than it was 40 years ago.

We have been incredibly lucky.

I think when Saban came back Mrs. Saban and him knew what they wanted. I don't think they would have went to another small college like Michigan St. If a head coaching position was open at these schools he'd have went there
Lsu, FL, Ga, Michigan, Osu, Texas, ND etc.

I don't think he would have went to places like
Tennessee, Auburn, Nebraska etc.

I believe he wanted to go somewhere that had a history of winning. He didn't want to have to build a school up anymore. He wanted to go somewhere that the name of the school would make recruiting easier.

At this point I’m pretty sure Saban could run any Fortune 500 company and just kill it. In a good way

Let’s be honest (I think we agree) Saban could’ve gone to several schools and dominated. The man is a college football genius. Glad we had him a few years

ETA: kudos to mark emmert for telling joe dean to stfu and giving him that first fat (at the time) contract

Yes they will. Both undefeated champions. Much like the 2009 Tide. That matters. I do think 2019 will be tainted by this year's collapse and cowardice.

People remember the great dynasties. Nebraska, Miami etc. And this one is arguably the longest/greatest and it isn't finished yet.

And, deep down, LSU knows it.

Who is remembered more Kim Carne's, who had one top hit of the 80s, or bands like Motley Crue, Def Leppard, and Guns N Roses, who had many more memorable songs and weren't one hit wonders?
