So he's ineligible assuming this is true.
Now the question is does the NCAA stop there, or do they turn their focus away from State/Newtons and toward Auburn/Newtons?

It all comes down to which story you believe.

Since this is a father asking for money for his son's services I am sure that will meet the NCAA's requirement of "on behalf." This seems to be a last minute desperation, hail mary, by Cecil to save his son.

Does Cam knowing anything really matter?

They went and got a lawyer and this is the best they could come up with. Auburn is fricked and while their at it scope out this lawyer and see who's really paying him.

I think it does because a lot of people in the media are trying to make it look like he was the victim of a greedy father. I heard a local radio guy say this exact thing today. He felt Cam was not in on it and that his dad was the one to blame. I think they acted together on this deal personally and he knew about it all along. Even his JUCO transfer was pretty fishy to me.

No,Cam not knowing anything isnt a valid excuse bc his dad was acting on his behalf.

But what constitutes "on a player's behalf." (quoted from the NCAA spokesperson) Is a immediate family relationship enough or does the athlete have to know it's happening?

Everyone should not forget that coaches are on record with the NCAA stating that Cam said "the money was too much at Auburn." He knew but it will be a he said, she said situation in regard to Cam's comment. Are you going to believe and SEC coach or are you going to believe a kid who's been caught cheating on tests, committing multiple traffic violations and stealing laptops?

Cam had to know something was going on. He was practically a lock for MSU at one point and then his dad mysteriously directed him to Auburn. He had to have known there was a reason for that.
What if his dad didn't confess to Cam until after he did the soliciting?

Yeah, perception wise, it matters, NCAA wise it doesn't.

i doubt its as simple as that.. i could request money to help get a kid to sign somewhere.. does that constitute it being on their behalf?

I don't know the NCAA bylaws but I think they would categorize it differently if your father asked on your behalf.
