Michael in 2018 I think is the only hurricane in my lifetime that made landfall as a 5 in the Gulf since Camille.

I was being sarcastic. The only time we start on our knees if there are too many people on the mat and there's not enough room.
The Gracie's dominated the early UFC against other fighting styles, boxing, kickboxing, karate etc... because they knew how to take people down, even if it was via guard pull.
Once you reach Purple belt you should at least have one take down (a throw, single leg, double leg, etc..) that no one can defend.
