I'm curious what sensible LSU fans are predicting for this season.

Most of the ones on this site seem to assume their QB and offense won't have much of a drop-off because of.. reasons.

Also not sure what the reasonable expectation is for the defense to be leaps and bounds better than last year.

There will be a drop off on offense this year without Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas. I think they will focus more on running the ball and the short to intermediate passing game getting the TEs more involved. You didn't have that last year because more often than not, it was either an explosive passing play or JD took off and ran. We have one of the best OLs in the country. The offense should be fine, but it will be a different look.

The defense should be improved, but how much remains to be seen. We have talent deficiencies at DT and in the secondary, but I think they will improve schematically under Blake Baker. They can't get any worse than what House produced last year.

I think 9-3 is a reasonable prediction given our schedule. 10-2 tops but I'm not expecting that.

UGA, Texas, Bama are automatic at the top

Bama should not be at the top. They should not be ahead of Tenner or Ole Miss. For the same reason that people say ‘07 LSU was not the best team in college football, and they are justified in saying that… what can I say, we lucked into it and delivered when it mattered. Bama needed 3 miracles to fumble into the playoffs last year. I don’t think anyone outside LSU believed LSU deserved to be there just like no one outside Bama really believes Bama deserved to be there last year.

LSU’s big question mark is the defense and Nuss. I don’t see a clear place you can put LSU or Bama, so by default I couldn’t put them above Tenner or Ole Miss. Nuss has shown signs of possibly being a really great player this year. Defense will be improved but Bo Jackson isn’t a miracle worker and it certainly won’t be even close to the LSU standard that we’ve lost since Covid.

I think the offense will be a little worse but still very good. Defense should be better (I would hope). Win-loss record about the same.

They aren't at THE TOP, but they are in the top 3. And until proven otherwise there's no reason not to have them there. Why should anyone put ole miss or tennessee above them? Just because saban isn't there?

It’s a fair analysis. Outside of the OL, no one on offense is proven, and the defense is coming off of a historically bad season. I don’t blame anyone for not thinking highly of LSU right now.

Most overrated team according to CBS at the start of last year:
Alabama
Texas
South Carolina
USC
Colorado
Oklahoma

And here is what they said about the 2 eventual playoff teams that they thought were overrated:
quote:

Alabama: This is the fifth time in Nick Saban's Alabama coaching tenure that he's fielded a team with new coordinators on both sides of the ball. None of the other four teams won the national championship. The Crimson Tide are also replacing former Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young at quarterback and a defensive superstar in Will Anderson Jr. from a team that failed to win its division. Despite all this, voters at SEC Media Days picked Alabama to win the SEC West. AP Top 25 voters pegged the Crimson Tide at No. 4 nationally, and the Coaches Poll put the Crimson Tide at No. 3 behind only Georgia and Michigan. Alabama is talented enough to win the SEC and make the CFP, but the assumption that it will accomplish those things is rooted in nothing more than blind faith in Saban, who turns 72 this season. -- Cobb (Fornelli, Backus)

Texas: The Longhorns have the most talent in the Big 12. It may not be close. But haven't we been here before? It's been 14 years since the 'Horns won the league, five years since they won 10 games. Until Texas does it on the field, I can't even begin to answer the question: Is Texas back? There always seems to be that game or two Texes loses that it should not. With Arch Manning and the SEC waiting in the wings, winning the Big 12 would be a nice sendoff. Why can't I get past 9-3 with losses to Bama, TCU and Texas Tech? -- Dodd

I'm going to disagree and say that I think LSU is being overlooked. I really don't hear anyone talking about them. I think most think without Daniels they are going to take a huge step back. Their D struggled and lost some talent, so no reason to think they'll go anywhere but backwards here either.

But something tells me, this is going to be a strong team. I think they trash USC right out of the gate and then they get their 2 toughest games, OleMiss, Bama and Oky, at home. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a darkhorse natty team....just a feelin.

We do have a lot of questions going into this season. I feel like we will be better than last year. Does that translate to more wins. We will find out.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't start reaching for a brown bag before noon either.

predicting that we are going to be competitive in every game, and probably have a really good offense.

nowhere to go but up for the defense so we'll see i suppose.

i don't think that we're overrated.

LSU is the 6th highest ranked SEC team in the preseason AP poll. The avg. position for LSU between all of the CBS voters is 6.75. Seems like they are rated properly.

I think we need to pack it up and cancel the season. No reason to play anymore after this.
