Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical.

You ever tried to turn on a 95+mph baseball?

You ever threw for 100+ pitches

You ever sat behind the plate in catchers gear for 3.5 hours

You ever legged out a triple

You ever ran down a tailing away line drive

this is just a short list but im willing to bet you have done none of it

baseball is the hardest sport there is (outside of maybe golf) because it is a game of failure, if you hit the ball 3 out of 10 times and you bat .300 that above average... That goes to show how hard this sport is... It has its physical and mental challenges to it

The guy who first made that claim was Ted Williams.... Pretty damn self serving.

I can even explain why it is stupid.

You can take a guy off the street. Lob a baseball to him and he will hit it.

But he isn't going to hit off of a Cy Young award winner.

Just like you can take a guy off the street and have him jump off a three meter springboard. But he is not going to be able to do a reverse three and a half in the pike position.

What Ted Williams did was basically like if Greg Louganis said "diving off of a three meter springboard is the hardest thing to do in sports"..

Now Greg Louganis never said that...but I promise you that Greg Louganis would hit a baseball before any major league baseball player could do a high difficulty dive.

Any elite athlete could make this same claim.

That is because EVERY elite performance in athletics is otherwordly. Including people who are great at hitting a baseball.

The same argument can be made about golf, fishing, (car) racing, equestrian, cornhole, darts, bowling, hunting, …

Why am I even replying but alas...
Lots of sports have different skillsets that are more concentrated from one to another.
Saying baseball doesn't require a tremendous amount of athleticism is ignorant.
As far as the hardest thing to do in sports I've always been a bit partial to taking and withstanding a punch from a professional fighter.

Baseball used to be a sport. Now it is just who can pay the most for a roster, like every other college sport these days.

Well...that includes golf also....baseball is much closer to being a sport than golf will ever be. Geez....
