I 100% its a bad excuse. I think the bigger thing is that the coaches that made them elite have left, and they have filled them with either bums, old assistants, or ex players.
Dabo thinks he can catch lightning in a bottle again, but unless he finds some defensive coach trying to rekindle glory (like a Bo Pelini) then he is never going to get it back. his ego is his own downfall in every possible way.
