I 100% its a bad excuse. I think the bigger thing is that the coaches that made them elite have left, and they have filled them with either bums, old assistants, or ex players.
Dabo thinks he can catch lightning in a bottle again, but unless he finds some defensive coach trying to rekindle glory (like a Bo Pelini) then he is never going to get it back. his ego is his own downfall in every possible way.

He had an elite DC, and two NFL qb’s and bought amazing recruiting classes via the bagman system. Then the qb’s graduated, Venables left and NIL happened. He8s a clown without those things, and he can’t leave his OC alone to call their own plays.

Clemson clearly was doing NIL before it was legal, come on now, they went from zero to hero so quickly, now that it's a level playing field, they are absolute arse, no reason for it.

Here is what people don't understand about dabo. He is a narcissist who is to stubborn to ever admit he was wrong. He is willing to dig the hole as deep as he has to because, in his mind, he will one day get to stand there and tell everyone his way was the right way.
