Can we discuss USCe's lack of a playmaking WR?

i never thought i'd see a spurrier offense without one, but damn...is Ace Sanders really the main threat?

you have tall and beastly TE's that can be split out wide against much smaller DB's...surprised that wasn't used early and often.

They got nothing.

And unfortunately for them their QB can't throw all that well either. I knew losing Alshon would hurt them this year, but if last night is any indication (and yes, I know they were rusty being the first game on the road and all) their passing game is in trouble.

To play a skill position at USCe the requirement is to have dreadlocks.

It's plain to see that however the defense and QB goes, so goes USCe.

By the second qt Vandy had put 8 & 9 men near the line of scrimmage because they knew USC was not a real threat to pass much....thats how they held Latty in check for the most part during 2nd and 3rd qt.

USC has very good DL...pretty good OL, great rb and the rest is average and ok.

I think you're right on the passing game, but people gotta remember the circumstances... on the road, 1st game of the year, against a decent defense... and on top of that Shaw got banged up pretty good.

They've got to be able to just straight run the ball with Lattimore, or whoever, consistently... using Shaw that much is just not a smart play... but even when they used playing action, shaw threw a INT.

Vandy made USCe look really average.

That's saying a lot.

ETA: but it's still early

I honestly didn't get to watch the game last night, but in 07' we didn't exactly light it up offensively to start the season on the road on a Thursday night in Starkville. I know we scored over 40 in that game but it wasn't pretty offensively. We ended up with a great offense that season.

Saw that chart they showed during the game....diet USC has 4 WRs under 6 feet in height? I guess you had better be great route runners if you have no size at wideout.

And yes, Knile is better than Lattimore. Pre/post both of their injuries.

You did. And I remember being impressed in that game and the Virginia Tech game the next week.

South Carolina didn't impress me at all. I came away more impressed with Vanderbilt than I did with South Carolina. I think Vandy, if they play their cards right, could be a legitimate 7 or 8-win team.

First, I still like Ellington as a playmaker, but perhaps more as a point guard than a reciever.

Second, Bama didnt really have a playmaking WR last year. but they had a badass RB and a qb who could get the ball where it needed to go

If they can't figure out their offensive line issues their lack of a true "big play" WR won't matter in the long run.

vandy is a really good team, solidly coached up, but no depth yet.

If Spurrier's main use of Shaw this year is going to be the read option, then expect Shaw to miss a ton of time.

okay, i kinda question this, but okay.

comparing both though, SC has nobody near Maze's skill level, and their usage of TE is nowhere as imaginative as mcelwain's.

And I wasn't impressed with South Carolina's offensive line. They were getting pushed around A LOT by a much smaller Vandy defensive line. If they can't handle Vandy's defensive line then how are they going to handle Georgia's?
