When you compare his recruiting to his predecessor...it is night and day different. Apparently, McMahon hasn't made any "strong-arse offers" to anyone, yet.

ETA...he sucks, solely because he is from Tennessee.

It's because we have a bunch of football fans who decide to become basketball and baseball coaches during the football off-season.

Lack of talent is the worst thing, and in todays world, that’s on him for not making more moves by now. Brian Kelly pieced together an SEC West winning team from a roster of 38 scholarship players.

Not saying he needs to be that great, it’s a really tough situation, but we weren’t competitive with other shitty teams.

ETA:

I actually think he’s a good coach. He’s just not a rebuild artist that we thought he could be. That takes a particular type of coach. Still giving him year 2 to make improvements but recruiting hasn’t been great.

LSU made one of the best hires possible, on paper, when considering the circumstances. The team steadily improved down the stretch of conference play.

Are you serious or trolling? Because the margins of defeat against teams that didn’t suck got larger and larger

He's done a terrible job with tactics. He doesn't recruit well. He's got all the personality of a sheet of drywall. He is likely the worst coach in the entire conference (apologies to Lamont Paris), and brings absolutely nothing to the table.

Nobody hates him personally. They hate the athletic department that cares so little about basketball that they made this extremely bad hire after destroying the program when they clearly did not have to.

Pretty much this at the moment. Outside of bringing KJ Williams from where he came from he completely struck out in the portal for most part. He didnt get a single decent starter out the portal for the team this year outside of KJ. He brought 2 more players from Murray St and both were probably better off not coming. 1 of them quit the team mid-season then strangely came back, was an odd situation.

We had a pretty solid freshman class come in as you said on paper but they did basically nothing all season and saw little to no improvement as the season went on. Our top rated freshman who was almost 5-star level didnt even get on the court till several games into the season. The next guy was a starter from day 1 and was pretty awful. Another 4-star in Phillips could never get on the court until the latter half of the season. Typically not a big deal if you have a good team, but, we didnt

For his 2023 class it's a basically makes no difference for next year type of class, on paper worse than the one he put together in a few short months for 2022. The portal this time around remains to be seen but it's where he absolutely has to crush it if he's to improve at all into next season.

The hardest part was seeing so many players from the past just be worse this year. He had no clue how to coach Adam Miller. Coleman was a 15/10 player from NWST turned into a nobody here. Mwani Wilkinson always was able to carve out a good role on Wade's teams here and it's like Wilk just gave up on McMahon this year. Justice Williams saw zero improvement really. Juice Hill he brought from Murray St who was a solid starting PG there and was so bad here he quit the team then eventually came back

That comment isn't worthy of a reply. How do you transfigure from an LSU fan to a McNeese fan just because you dislike the LSU AD?

Lets start with the idea that LSU thought it was smart to give him a 7 year contract.

I know you guys hate him because you weren’t very good this year but what decisions did he make that sunk the program so fast after tPearl?

I'll be honest, I didn't watch a single game of LSU's this year. Nonetheless, I think there are just too many LSU fans who are Wade acolytes and don't understand (or refuse to acknowledge) that he left Woodward with no choice but to fire him. You can't be as uncooperative as he was throughout the schools internal investigation, sign an amended contract that says you can be fired if you get a Level 1 NOA (Wade was directly implicated in 4+ Level 1s), and, most importantly, have new allegations come out evidencing payments made from your own personal bank account to recruits and/or recruits' girlfriends. He lied to the NCAA, lied to LSU, and was uncooperative with both. Not a single coach in America would still have a job. There's a reason he ended up at McNeese and a reason that he starts out day 1 there prevented from recruiting off-campus and with a suspension.

As for the new guy, he was put in an impossible situation that too many LSU fans can't seem to grasp. He lost his entire recruiting class and had literally the entire team enter the portal. He convinced one player to remove his name from the portal. So from the very beginning, he had to try to put together a patchwork roster in a matter of months, all but one roster spot being open and filled by a transfer. And when you're staring down the barrel of potential sanctions, you're not exactly the most appealing place for a transfer to want to sign.

I didn't expect LSU to be as bad as they ended up being after the start they had, but had you told me they'd only win 2-3 SEC games this season before the season began, I wouldn't have felt like that was an unreasonable prediction either.

Bigger complaint for me right now is why is the NCAA still sitting on this?

I think you vastly overestimate how the coaching world values the LSU basketball job, especially with so much uncertainty as to what the NCAA was going to do to them. LSU was not going to hire a brand name. They were going to hire a mid-major coach like they've done with basically every basketball hire in the history of the program. Trent Johnson is the only coach they've ever hired that came from a program in a major conference. Dale Brown had no head coaching experience. John Brady came from Samfod without ever having made an NCAAT. Johnny Jones had middling success at North Texas. Will Wade was young and had decent success at UTC and VCU. That's not a who's who of college basketball coaches. McMahon's resume was every bit as good as Wade's was coming in. Sometimes you hit it big with mid-majors. Sometimes you don't. But they're always a gamble, and LSU wasn't in the position to hire anyone better on paper.
