Anybody who knows anything about Panama City Beach knows what a small area it is. We had a mass exodus of people after Hurricane Michael so it's even smaller now. We have had 51 deaths in the county and roughly 4,400 active cases.

The Labor Day weekend getaways will spike the cases again, same thing happened after Memorial Day and July 4th weekend.

Was it just the "weekends" or was it all the protests?

Are you using active cases when they don't cancel cases?

Seriously?

Why does that matter? A bunch of people died from WW2 back in the '40s but what does that have to do with today?

Tracking new daily fatalities is probably the overall best indicator because there are still a lot of people contracting the virus but never going to get tested because the symptoms were light or non-existent.

If new fatalities are falling, then its highly likely the virus itself is diminishing.

Just read an editorial in the paper that says the website most often cited by The White House Coronavirus Task Force, The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation ( IHME) and supposedly conservative , projects 295,000 deaths by December. You guys keep up with this stuff more than me , but are any of you familiar with it ? That seems awfully high for a supposedly conservative site

I hope they are not using this site to make decisions if true. Quoted my post from another board

That was from the site I use. You could use this one.........

LINK

quote:

DOH-Bay received confirmation of 195 additional cases of COVID-19 with 1,004 negative test results and a 16.3 percent positive for August 7.

quote:

The Florida Department of Health in Bay County (DOH-Bay) received confirmation of 117 additional Bay County resident cases of COVID-19 with 915 negative test results and an 11.3% percent positive for August 6.

The Florida Department of Health in Bay County (DOH-Bay) received confirmation of 81 additional Bay County resident cases of COVID-19 with 679 negative test results and a 10.7% percent positive for August 5.

I could keep going but I think you get the gist. It has not slowed down one bit in this area.

The number of healthy, college-age (15-24 year old) people who have died as a direct result of covid infection is 20. Nationwide.

Fortunately, NO ONE has to attend a football game that they don't wish to. The rest of us can do our personal risk assessments, and choose not to live in fear.

I agree. But if September 26th arrives and new cases and fatalities are all down 70% or more, the "optics" of no football are going to look bad.

And if the SEC plays, the ratings will be fantastic and the Big 10, PAC 12 and others will look like fools for folding prematurely. But hey, they could still watch us play.

The biggest mistake made in the south was reopening the beaches
They should have never let other states travel to and from the beaches

Which is why the Emerald Coast's numbers aren't falling. From Pensacola to Panama City Beach, it's wall to wall tourists.

Numbers of what? cases? deaths?

For a highly infectious virus that has infected more-or-less one in 1 in 7, and will continue to infect the uninfected for years...

increase in rate of weekly cases... good
increase in rate of weekly deaths... bad
