New cases have fallen 24.2% since peaking on 7/22

New fatalities have fallen 9.5% since peaking on 8/1

Case Positivity Rate has fallen 3.0% since peaking on 7/6.

Every metric is improving. Why not wait a few more weeks to make a decision. Hopefully the SEC is wise about this.

Because it’s not about the virus or “safety”

It’s about optics and liability

Unfortunately, where I am located along the coast, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida are hitting record highs. With most public schools letting students back I expect those numbers to go up quite a bit more too

because it's these university presidents who don't give a shite about sports seizing the opportunity to take back power away from athletic departments and revenue that would have been spent on those departments this year if sports were played...

I agree. But if September 26th arrives and new cases and fatalities are all down 70% or more, the "optics" of no football are going to look bad.

Not sure why they have to decide right now. Full practice doesn't start for couple of weeks still, right?

If we’re ever going to get back to normal -whether that’s football, restaurants, whatever- at some point some decisions will be made that will involve risks. We as society are going to have to take a chance and live with the consequences. You can’t wait until CV19 is completely eradicated.

we have already done that. Most states shut down bars/restaurants/public gatherings. After a time they opened things back up. We went on the largest covid spree to date immediately afterwards.

The Labor Day weekend getaways will spike the cases again, same thing happened after Memorial Day and July 4th weekend.

Parts of Florida. I live in the NW on the coast. Things haven't slowed down one bit in my podunk area.

The biggest mistake made in the south was reopening the beaches
They should have never let other states travel to and from the beaches

All of the below data are based upon 7-day rolling averages:

Alabama's new cases peaked 17 days ago and have since fallen 24.6%. Fatalities peaked 13 days ago and has sine fallen 29.7%

Florida's new cases peaked 23 days ago and have since fallen 45.0%. Fatalities peaked just four days ago but have fallen 14.3%

Mississippi's new cases peaked 10 days ago and have since fallen 69.5%. Fatalities peaked just four days ago but have fallen 19.7%

I don't get this liability argument -- how is a Pandemic not an Act of God? In legal terms no one can be held responsible

Furthermore, it is impossible to say you contracted a widespread air born virus from a specific place - it's not HIV....you think you could sue the school and win for saying you caught the Flu at a football game?
