Hopefully he can turn the Mavs around. Great coach and person, and glad to see him moving on to the NBA.

Sounds like something coaches say right before they leave for a better job

Michigan has much more tradition and championships than Alabama. Its not close and financial support ain’t happening in Bamaland.Just like the OM situation with Lane,LSU like Michigan is the much better job.Facts are facts!!

That’s all well and good but looks like Michigan is promoting from within.

If a coach leaves, can the players transfer? I don’t think the transfer portal opens back up for basketball. Does it before the season next year?

It opens for a coaching change. Once a hire is made it opens five days later and remains open for fifteen days.

"Alabama's Nate Oats coached high school basketball in Michigan for more than a decade, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Wolverines pursue him. But he signed a new contract in April that runs through the 2031-32 season and made him one of the five highest-paid coaches in college basketball."

Have people not learned anything from the Lane Kiffin situation? Its not always a matter of buyouts and coaches salary. Michigan has better resources to win than Bama. I dont think Oats is going to leave Bama but Oats going to Michigan would make sense

Nobody has said it wouldn't make sense. ESPN gave reasons it won't happen.

I don’t know what Oates would do if offered but 9 Final Fours plus 2 national titles is nothing to sneeze at including one of the top NIL in America. Just a lot of $$ for players
