Tennessee commit Tanner Ingle didn’t have to chase down the truth amid rumors about the status of Volunteers head coach Butch Jones on Sunday. The ousted coach called Ingle personally.

“I spoke with Coach Jones about 30 minutes ago,” the Orlando Dr. Phillips defensive back said about 12:30 Sunday afternoon. “He said he didn’t really expect that to happen, but it did so he told me to find a place to go, quickly … and that if he gets anything he will contact me.”

I don’t see anything wrong with that.

He put in the time with those recruits. He isn't going to let them go without a fight.

What a sleaze.

How can you not expect to get fired? Didn't live up to expectations last year, getting embarrassed this year, winless in SEC play.

Does this dude live in fairy land or something

He contacted more than just Ingle. Should've cut his phone directly after calling him in for the firing.

Bob Shoop made a point that none of them (the staff) were naive a few weeks ago when he responded to a question about job security and yet I'm starting to think CBJ really was in denial this entire time. His staff knew, we knew, the entire fricking country knew but he refused to see it.

Yeah, that's not a good look. Just like the corporate world, you don't go "scorched Earth".

I blame Tennessee.

Butch just keeps delivering. I hate to see him and his antics leave.

There's not a doubt in my mind he thought he would get another year. Hell he even stated on Vol calls two weeks ago he "fully expected to be back next year".

Yeah but I didn't think he actually believed that. Butch must've been Basillio's source last week for the whole 'he'll be here next season' rumor.

Gene Stallings used to say that prospects should commit to schools, not coaches, but that isn't the way it works nowadays.

The bigger question is how big of an idiot does the kid have to be to think that Butch is someone to hitch your wagon to.

While I'm not a fan of departing coaches trying to persuade players to decommit, this part is important. Ingle is a 3 star who can't pick and choose his school. So if the new HC at UT doesn't want him, he needs to get cracking on finding a new school that he wants to attend and wants him because we're getting pretty late in the recruiting cycle and lots of classes are almost full of commits, especially with the new signing period.

Edit: looking at his 247 profile, it appears we offered him too. Ignore everything I said above -- he has a better alternative than UT already.
