Turns out the buyout is going to be whatever we tell him he's getting.
He will get paid what he agrees to or what the court says he will. It's not up to LSU.

Kelly is not taking his chances in court. He will get it all and maybe even more.

LSU is the one taking chances and, like you, I think LSU spends more.

Brian Kelly has better things to do than worry about what life-ruining “infraction” that LSU will muddling in order to get a “for cause” to hold in court.
Dare I say it, he has probably got better things to do than worry about what some judge or jury will do that is more concerned about LSU’s win-loss record than any true notion of justice.
There is only one way to get what you want from LSU- that is the threat of lots of losing in the future.

I read it but have no idea what you're attempting to convey.

This is inaccurate btw.
That is not what the Board authorized today. We do not yet know if LSU intends to fire Kelly for cause.
quote:
The board held a special meeting Friday to authorize President Wade Rousse, who just started in the job this week, to review and, if appropriate, send a written termination notice to Kelly. It’s the university’s first response to a lawsuit Kelly filed seeking the full $54 million buyout he’s owed. The only way LSU can get out of paying him is by firing him for cause, which the university has not publicly indicated it will do.

What is the one thing LSU wants out of all of this?

Twerking recruits on a revolving disco floor should be just cause.

To settle his buyout somewhere in the 60-70% range and is willing to remove the clause that Kelly has to search for legit work in accepting a reduced buyout.
He doesn't have to cut a golf game short to go interview.

It's either insubordination for refusing former AD Scott Woodward's instructions to fire OC Sloan, which lead to his own firing. Or the way he handled safety Greg Brooks brain tumor surgery which left him paralyzed. If the later is the case, nobody wants the media shite storm that will come from that. Could force him to negotiate. Talk shite about LSU all you want, but Brian Kelly would have sucked coaching at any SEC school.

It won't be this.

LSU sent him some lower lump sum payments and he wants every single penny for not working and playing golf. So LSU has nothing to lose. Drag it out and let the courts make you pay it.
It’s just leverage to get a lower buyout amount.

I have a relative that is a negotiation lawyer. They are high dollar. LSU may end up running up a $10 million legal tab and maybe get almost zero reduction.

LSU should just give BK his money and call it a day before they really step in it. If they start trying to go after BK for cause because he was stepping out on his wife then I imagine that the lawyers for BK will bring up the fact that when Coach O was fired he was let go without cause after he was spilling his guts to some chick that had no official role with LSU football. He told her inside info about the LSU football program and that’s what got him fired. At the time he was also named in all that mess that was going on with the sexual harassment lawsuit or whatever it was. He was later dropped from that but at the time he was fired he was still named and yet he was fired without cause. I’m sure the lawyers for BK will have a field day with all of that.

Doesn’t appear Kiffen is scared off about it.
