This can’t be true! I was told on this same very site that OU was hiring Heupel. I guess Heup turned y’all down.

Was that before or after you started your account in March 2023?

It was being late on his throws that made him "throw into coverage". I watched the game, and I've seen a helluva lot more elite QB play over the last 24 years than a whorn fan has for sure.

To his credit, he has gotten rid of everything that was holding us back.

He had the balls to purge and overturn an entire roster his predecessor left in shambles.

He has demonstrated the nutsack to get rid of underperforming coaches (and players), which neither of his predecessors would do when needed.

And probably most importantly, he re-installed an Oklahoma Football culture that has been sorely missing for probably 15 years or so of us bumbling around in the wilderness trying to be some better version of tech.

All the trash has been taken out, and the cupboard re-stocked on both sides of the ball. He has made all the right moves so far.

2 of his 3 Ints were WR issues. 1 was a bad throw. All this and the OC had left for Miss St so had an analyst fill in. I am glad he had some issues it was his only tough work all year. It will only serve to help him off season. We’ll use TE’s more as well which helps too.

I think the kid is going to be great. Watched a lot of his HS ball to look for trends and one thing I liked. He can run but most important he stayed in pocket until last second and made tough throws knowing hit was coming. In other words he does not leave good pockets which helps OLine to know where to push their guy. Scramble QBs are tough on OLine as they never know where to push.

He also has one of the better WR rooms. And a great stable of RBs who can catch out of backfield. I hope teams do sleep on him.

The reporter didn’t do his homework he just wanted to be “first” to report.

It was a 2 year extension and slight bump in pay. Our women's basketball coach actually got a bigger raise in same BOR meeting lol.

Perhaps it will turn pout to be a great thing and y'all will look like geniuses. It isn't easy to get rid of dead wood, so kudos to him for that.

This will trigger even more lol

OU Board of Regents today also approved pay raises for women's basketball coach Jennie Baranczyk (now at $1.075 million) and women's gymnastics coach K.J. Kindler (now at $1 million).

That makes more sense. I mean, he is a new coach and could turn out to be the next great thing. But it might take a bit longer.

I don't want to go against what other OU fans say but the "dead wood" thing is way overstated. As far as players are concerned and roster turnover...

Brent had a boatload of Riley guys on his first team that left after season one because it was clear they weren't going to ever play. A couple of other good Riley guys opted out or portaled after '22 (Marvin Mims, Wanya Morris, Theo Wease) while the rest of them played in '23. There are still a bunch of Riley guys left that are starters on defense. Ironically, it is the offense that is completely devoid of Riley guys.

As far as coaching "dead wood". He replaced long in the tooth Ted Roof at DC. He replaced basically "an interim WR coach" because the long term one was removed in '22 due to an "political correctness incidence... and obviously Lebby went to Mississippi State.

All in all, Venables turnover of the program was probably pretty normal for an outsider type of coaching change. And I think this idea that Riley left the program in horrible shape personnel wise is probably overblown as well. Him taking Caleb Williams really hurt... but OU still had some talent. The just lost a bunch of close games in '22 and got blown out when Gabriel wasn't available. That 6-7 team had decent talent. Just couldn't finish.

This means OU now has 3 female head coaches of women's teams making at least $1 million. Softball coach Patty Gasso is making $1.775 million, and is scheduled to be making $1.825 million as of July 1.

Should we talk about how 54 of the 82 players LR brought in transferred out?

How about the former players not being around the program?

How about the results being worse each year?

How about players not knowing how to watch film under LR?

I don't really want to get the "Big Twelve board" comment from the rest of this bunch so I answer will answer these as briefly as I can.

1. Out of that 54... Name the guys who played a lot who transferred out.

2. Not sure what you are talking about exactly... But Champ U BBQ 2021 (the one with the sports cars) the comments were that there were more former OU players that attending that event that anybody had seen in years.

3. Yes, every year was a little worse. But consider the fact Lincoln Riley is the winningest coach percentage wise In OU history and probably always will be.

4. Yes, some players said that about Grinch. But after they routed Nebraska... everybody thought that Brent was well on is way to fixing the defense.

If you want to make is sound like Riley wrecked the program that is fine... but I'm sure there is some guy out in LA named "Trojan Guy" that thinks Clay Helton left their program in shambles as well.

My only question is... why?

Venables may end up being successful as a head coach and this move might look good down the road.

But right now he was 7-6 and 10-3 in his two seasons and didn't appear in the Big 12 title game either year. 0-2 in bowls.

Seems like waiting another year before re-upping would have made more sense for OU. Did they have legitimate fear someone was going to snatch him up?
