He’s a solid coach IMO, but not sure about paying that buyout to hire him. Malzahn was solid too.

The truth is in the middle - this is a solid hire, with risk but also upside.

And he coached at Arkansas State. Auburn idiots have more money than sense.

Better then keeping Gus, maybe. At least it is trying something different.

Coach at a lonely outpost school that has good years occasionally, usually makes a nice bowl game and is famous for a miraculous win against a traditional power.
Good fit for Auburn.

Wow, what an awful hire. Dude was born in Boise, has no connection to the south.

I agree. You could have done a lot worse. If Malzahn's buyout wasn't so steep, I have no doubt Auburn would have pulled a bigger and safer name.

This seems like a HR compared to what was being rumored. The guy knows how to run a good program.

Don’t forget that his offenses At Texas were so bad he got Mack brown fired.

Except coaching in Texas and Arkansas.

This is going to set them back years program and recruiting wise.
This is a Mississippi State-type hire...with the understanding that even Mississippi State made a better hire than this in their most recent search.

Pretty sure it had more to do with booster interference than $

He will fit in just like Mac did at Florida.
Impossible. There will never be worse fit than McYellowteeth at the University of Florida.

We are in the 40s now. Nowhere to go but up.

Yes, he's the one that got Mack Brown fired
Boise State was looking to get rid of him, so they are stoked
Looking at his wife, cannot recruit a lick...
Welcome to Auburn!

and saban went to LSU with no ties to the south. Meanwhile, BOOM has ties to the south his entire life. If you can coach, you can coach. If you can't, it doesn't matter where your ties lie.

At least his wife isn't getting plowed by a former player at a rival school.

Except for the time he spent coaching here.

I mean...it's not a BAD hire by any stretch of the imagination. He's 69-19 at Boise State.
Someone with knowledge.
