You have to have six wins or win your conference. It is a NCAA eligibility requirement. OLE Miss will not get a bowl bid with 5 wins.

Not true....NCAA has 35 bowl games now(added 4 new ones this year) and there are 119 teams. Herbstreit and Howard were laughing about how a few 5-7 teams will have to fill the bowl spots this year.

Unless the NCAA alters the rules, a team must have 6 wins or win their conference.

Dude are you serious? People in the media (I believe they would know) were laughing about the possibility of this happening.

So 70 teams have to fill out 35 bowls......lets just say only 69 win 6 games or more do you think the ncaa is going to cancel that bowl?

Yes I am serious.
Currently there are 65 teams that are bowl eligible. Only 5 more teams need to qualify. Unless the NCAA changes the rules for bowl eligibility then no team withe a 5 win record will go to a bowl. And if the rule does change Ole Miss would not be invited.

Yeah because everything the media reports is true. Especially Herbstreit. Miles to Michigan!

so if 5 more teams do not qualify then 3 bowls would get cancelled is what you're saying?

They will not cancel the bowl games because there isn't enough 6-6 teams to fill out the remaining spots. The remaining spots(if there are any) will be filled by 5-7 teams. Yes, this is retarded and goes to show there are wayyyy to many bowl games but corporations, cities, and stadiums have been planning on these games taking place for over a year. They won't cancel them last minute. Ole Miss or any other team would be dumb to turn this down. Who in there right mind would turn down an extra 3-4 weeks of practice?

Question was for the poster not you. My point was he kept saying NCAA mandates a team must have 6 wins and kept arguing that was the case so I asked him if they would cancel bowl games because 5 teams were 5-7(i know they won't just trying to get him to see the light)

There have been reports that the NCAA is working on contingency plans if there are not enough qualified teams for the bowls.

When the NCAA confirmed this week that it was preparing for the contingency of making a 5-7 team “bowl eligible” to fill out its 35-bowl game dance card, it was merely acknowledging an inevitable — and only mildly embarrassing — milepost on Greed Street

The NCAA would have to change the rule. There are still plenty of teams that have the chance to get the necessary 6th win. The NCAA will not make a change unless it is absolutely necessary.

Are you saying Ole Miss would go to a bowl game with a 5-7 record, 1-6 in the conference(Probably 1-7 after this weekend), with one of the losses against Jackonsville State?

ETA:

You said it wasn't true. It is a fact that a rule change would have to be made if not enough teams qualified. Just trying to get you to see the light.

FIFY

Anyone else remember when going to a bowl game meant something?

Exactly!

This would be the same as increasing the NCAA tournament field in basketball to 170 teams and allowing a 13-16 Alabama team to participate as an at large.

Why? It makes you more money to go. And your players get an extra month of practice. I don't see anything embarrassing about this at all

How fricking dumb are you hotty fricking toddy. You just made me realize why I hate Ole Miss again. I was begining to ease up since we have baby bear, and sCam to nurture haterd for but you just brought it all back. It's a Bowl Committe thing dumbass you have to have 6 wins, they will find some shite team with one more win than your shite team.

Regardless of changing rules etc.....the bottomline is the NCAA will not cancel bowl games because enough teams aren't "bowl eligible" my contention is that there is no way in hell there won't be 35 bowl games played

And that's another thing...Ole Miss would be one of the LAST teams anyone would consider for their bowl...and that's assuming they beat Miss St. Not sure a 4-8 team would be considered,

Sad to admit but if UT loses to UK they would get the call before Ole Miss.

Guys,
Hate to barge in here with some real information. The NCAA can make an exception and allow a team with a losing record to play in a bowl. There have been several times that the SunBelch champion had a losing record but was allowed by the NCAA to go to the New Orleans Bowl. The NCAA makes the rules so they can change them as they see fit.
