There are 12 teams who have 5 wins right now. And there are 6 bowl spots left to these teams.

If Ole Miss wins on Saturday is there a chance we will be selected for a bowl game with a 5-7 record? Assuming that there are available spots.

I don't know all the 5 win teams, but a few that come to mind are:

Oregon State
Colorado
Texas

How is it embarrassing to go to a bowl game? I would kill to go, it is good for recruiting and it gives you an extra month of practice. You would be an idiot to turn down ANY bowl invitation.

You won't be "selected," the SEC will try to force you to go. We have to fulfill our bowl tie-in responsibilities for this year. Ole Miss could always refuse to go, but it would piss the SEC off to no end.

why in the hell should any team with a losing record deserve to go to a bowl game?

It would be more embarrassing than anything else.

Because a team that can not have a winning season should NOT be rewarded with post season play.

Less than mediocraity shouldn't be rewarded, but since it is acceptable at ole miss I understand why fans of ole miss wouldn't think its a bad thing.

Because you would go with a losing record. For a program like Texas you dont think its a bit embarassing to be playing in some small bowl with a 5-7 record. Id be pissed if it was LSU.

ETA: It should be embarassing for any program, Texas was just the big name out of the group you posted.

with the way bowl games grow like weeds, you wont eveb need to have a winning record to reach a bowl.

Its all about $

Why? It makes you more money to go. And your players get an extra month of practice. I don't see anything embarrassing about this at all.

Even worse IMO is the fact that a Big East team will get an automatic BCS bid... there are ZERO teams from the Big East ranked in the top 25.

I understand, which is why I said they wont turn it down. But when you should be playing for national championships, making a bowl game at 5-7 is pretty embarassing to me.

BINGO !! 8-4 or 7-5 team in the Fiesta is a bigger embarrasment than a 5-7 team in the Motor City Bowl.

And even if it was embarrassing, it will help the program by giving us extra money, and the additional month of extra practice time.

Exactly. Take the invite win the game and bring some money back to the sec.

This is what matters. Those small bowl games that will be left don't pay out enough for a school to turn a profit. Schools always lose money on the smallest bowl games.
