So the term bowl eligible will take on a whole new meaning. schedule 4 FBS schools and go to a bowl. Oh wait you guys lost to one. Really Jacksonville ST or whatever beat you guys.

This is seriously pathetic. ONLY an Ole Miss fan who hangs banners for garbage would be thrilled with going to a bowl with a 5-7 record. The only reason you would go is b/c there are too many bowls and too many piss poor teams. I sure hope if Tennessee loses Saturday we stay our asses home.

I'm not "thrilled" by any means. I want the extra practice and the players love bowl games. Again, take a poll of the players and see what percent want to play in a bowl? I'll bet it is at least 3 out of 4.

I wouldn't say it is embarrassing but it is kind of gay. If we are offered a spot, hell why not accept it, we're gonna get ridiculed either way.

But you won't get offered, why did this get 3 pages, you all know you have to win 6 games to be elligible. They will find someone else with 6 wins for the tie in.

How dumb are you? The issue this year is that there will not be enough teams with 6 wins for the number of bowl spots. They will have to dip down into 5 win teams.

Are you certain about this? I don't know.
But, I would think there would be other options like taking 6 win schools from other conferences instead of going to teams with a losing record.
I honestly don't know, but can you confirm they are going to dip down and take a 5 win team?

There's 12 teams with 5 wins (as of now) and 6 spots. But some of those teams probably will not win (Texas, Oregon State, etc). I think there's a pretty good chance there are 1-2 5 win teams in a bowl game.

Sorry...thrilled is a poor choice of words. But I've seen 2 or 3 threads about this, all either started by an Ole Miss fella or about Ole Miss.
The original purpose of bowls were to reward teams for a good season. If anyone thinks going 5-7 is a good season and deserves a post-season game, they serioulsy need to re-evaluate their goals. It's not about WANTING to go to a bowl, it's about "did they earn the right to play in one?" Losing to Jax St, Vandy, and UT by almost 40 is not what I call a bowl worthy resume. Texas, Tenn, Colorado...none of them deserve a bowl with a 5-7 record...

Why? It makes you more money to go. And your players get an extra month of practice. I don't see anything embarrassing about this at all.
Maybe ole miss fans should set higher standards than making a bowl game with a losing record.

Yea cause that's what we set out to do back in august.

Some of you fricking people on here.....

Any team with a 5-7 record would be foolish not to accept a bowl bid. The extra month of practice is worth any negativity from going with a losing record.

They'll have no choice BUT to accept it. It makes more money for the conference and yes, it's good practice. But seriously, if they start letting teams with losing records in bowls, they'll have to stop creating more bowls. "Hey, we went 5-8 last year, but at least we MADE the bowl"...It's stupid and nothing to hang your hat on. Just my opinion.

pretty sure you have to be .500 to go to a bowl

Think about the thread. Yall are trying to get opposing fanbases to legitimize ole miss going to a bowl with a 5-7 record. That's what is wrong with the world today and it starts in little league where all the teams get trophies etc. If you suck you shouldn't get rewarded. If LSU was 5-7 I wouldn't want them to go to a bowl and I sure as hell wouldn't be on here trying to get other fans to tell me we should go to a bowl at 5-7. Bowls use to mean something now 6-6 and 5-7 teams go to bowls what a joke!

Link?
I dont give a baker's frick about getting "opposing fanbases to legitimize" anything having to do with OM. 90% of other fans either already hate us or ehhh dont mind us that much. No one likes us, and that's fine.
All I care about is Ole Miss and what is best for us. Is going to a bowl at 5-7 something to brag about? Certainly not. But it is great for our program bc it essentially gives you another spring practice. The money won't be that big of a plus for a lower-tier bowl but the practice time is worth its weight in gold.
That's my piece. Let's bury this tired-arse subject, we are frickin 4-7 and have an extremely good opponent this saturday.
