The longest thread on the first page right now being about the Pac 12 is all you need to know about the state of this forum in 2020.

Isn't like there's tons of SEC happenings to talk about.

So you're paying a senior, Heisman contender, starting quarterback the same as a third string true freshman safety?

Surely no one will bitch about that.

Also, who sets this pay scale? If its just a flat number, someone like Alabama will find it a lot easier to pay a certain number than Baylor.

Why are you taking more of Baylor's money (percentage wise) than Alabama's?

If its not a set scale, then players are just going to the highest bidder.

Notice that I don't even participate in this thread anymore even though I started it.

The reason is because of peebrainscammer. I am so sick and tired of her fricking uninformed, unintelligent, head in the sand, condescending (which is hilarious in it's own right since she is such a moron), out of touch with reality and how the system truly works for the entire universities.

She truly doesn't understand college athletics. She truly doesn't understand (as others here have pointed out) that the devotion for the vast majority of the fans is to their school...not the players.

I don't love Auburn because of Bo Jackson and Bo Nix. I love Bo Jackson and Bo Nix BECAUSE of Auburn. I also love Auburn's other athletic teams...basketball, baseball, softball, gymnastics...etc. According to peebrain, none of us would ever follow our schools sports without the "stars". Again, that is total cluelessness. If Auburn is playing Alabama in the Iron Bowl, the stadium will be filled regardless of whether or not the players are NFL caliber or not. Not only that, CBS, ESPN or Fox will be covering the game even if the "stars" now play in the XFL instead of college. Peebrain thinks that the networks will no longer want to cover the games. That shows how truly out of touch with reality she is.

If the networks choose to stop covering the games because many of the "stars" choose to play in the XFL, then what are they going to televise in those time slots as replacements? Cornhole championships? E-sports? XFL? Hell no to all of those. The history and traditions that college sports have are not existent in any of the possible replacements. Therefore, the viewership will pale in comparison to what they would have from televising an Iron Bowl with 3-star players that play for their school. The stadiums will still be full...anyone that disagrees have never watched a Texas or Florida or Georgia high school football game. Sure, their attendance is not as big as those in college...but that is because their fanbases are not anywhere near the size of the colleges.

College football and basketball teams DO NOT NEED the "stars".
The "star" players NEED college football and basketball.

Anyone with a clue about college sports already know this.

FWIW, I'm not addressing this to peebrainscammer and therefore, will not respond to whatever drivel she will follow up with.

I'm not going back and reading 16 pages of bullshite, but it boggles the mind that people are still so fricking clueless about Title IX that they still think a stud football player could be paid more than a female high jumper.

The ONLY way the FB player could get more money is off NIL. And even then, the player can't use the school name or logo. And that would be endorsement money coming from outside sources, not the university. It doesn't touch university revenue.

So can we please dispense with the talk of a school paying stud players more, or FB players more than female swimmers? Because unless you have some plan for getting Pelosi and a whole lot of other liberals voted out, it's just a fricking waste of time. Hell, even Republicans have daughters who have benefitted from Title IX.

100% correct!!!!

This has become the cart before the horse.

To prove the point, no developmental league or non NFL league really produces money. They would go broke.

Alabama has a fan base that supports.... ALABAMA.

Yet he/she insists on paying all FB players the same despite some being more "valuable" than others which defeats the entire point of "rewarding those who generate the revenue."

Federal law explicitly prohibits this, and that fact isn't going to change.

People talk out of both sides of their mouths. These are the same people who want athletes to be paid for NIL, even though there were very few college football players who could have made any money off that last year, especially if they can't wear the university logo or jersey in the ad.

When the thought of losing this season due to CV19 was talked about earlier, everyone was talking about the Tens of Millions of dollars lost to to the local economies and the Tens of Millions of dollars lost by the Athl Depts, now when it is time to discuss paying the Players' larger stipends, they aren't even worth an extra $6 Million spread among the 100 Revenue Athletes

That doesn’t mean individual players are worth that much . A lot of people that flock to campuses for game day don’t even go to the game. It’s a social event for schools as much as a football game. Always has been.

All players are not worth that much. They’re just not. I don’t care how much schools make off the sport. People are there for the schools playing games, not the players.

Let someone create a semi-pro league for those who choose not to go the legit college route.

I don't know why this hasn't already happened and when it does CFB will see 15000 people max at a UGA / Alabama game. The product would be far better. It should be played on Saturdays with an understanding that you can't advance to the NFL until you have served your 3 year apprenticeship in the minors. CFB would still exist with the kids who only play in mop up time and have no shot at the NFL playing and it would be a compelling game for people who were somehow connected to the university but imagine the draw in mid size cities across the nation for the top 20 or so players from 50 schools playing in a football minor league...and some of those players would stick around beyond 3 years and be pretty damn good at that level....it would be great. I don't know how it hasn't already taken place other than the stranglehold CFB has on fall saturdays and TV....

Seriously...imagine the top 80 recruits from Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia on the same team, say in Birmingham, playing similar teams from other regions.....those games would be great in a few years and with some money to attract coaching talent etc.....it is what CFB has become anyway, why not just drop the entire student athlete crap and let colleges continue to play with the kids who aren't going to have a shot at the nfl.

Yes. Because FOOTBALL players are always concerned with their own health and well being. That's why they play contact sports.

what do you think arena league football was they folded in 2019, nfl europe folded in 2007 losing 40 million dollars.

little rock's AA baseball team the arkansas travlers has been around since 1915 it averages about 4000 in attendance compared to the razorback baseball team's 9000.

if you've really got an appetite for some minor league football there are currently 5 separate arena leagues and no less than 15 outdoor leagues and three developmental leagues in the united states

minor league football

none of them have ever made money

There is absolutely ZERO chance that an UGA/Bama game with primarily 3-star and some 4-stars with an occasional 5-star would attract less than 80,000 at either stadium. The passion would be every bit as it would have been last year.

As far as the product, there is no way there would be enough interest in ANY minor league team that would ever rival VANDY’S fan base.

NO ONE who attended any school that they are a fan of would prefer ANY minor league team EVER over their school.

Again, there would NEVER be 80 top recruits that would forgo a college scholarship and EVERYTHING that comes with it (worth well over $200,000) over four years TAX FREE and playing in front of 70,000-100,000 fans per game just to make $30,000-$50,000 tops (probably less) per year and play in front of 500-15,000 fans at BEST...especially if they played on Saturdays against CFB. Then, they have to pay taxes on that money and provide their own housing and maybe health insurance.

NO MINOR LEAGUE would ever threaten College Football.

We have literally a nationwide crisis on our hands because of college tuition debt

And all I hear is that these athletes aren't getting anything substantial of value. Come on.

And fine you want to rip into coaches salaries despite that being their actual career, not just a 2 or 3 year stopover like most of these players, but Nick Saban is worth more to Alabama than any fricking player ever period. Any Heisman winner. any of them

None of these have ever had the TV contracts that CFB has, contracts that are a result of CFB players and coaches labor.....it has almost nothing at all to do with the universities they are associated with today. If those players and coaches were offered that compensation without the need to fund the rest of the athletic programs at the university they results would rival that of the NFL.....especially in comparison to the attraction to the price of a degree spread out over 4 years....
