ill give Mcfadden this, the year LSU won the national championship yet lost to arkansas in overtime, i got concerned right before the game started cause although my tigers were better i was thinking about they only have one ball and they have one of the great RB's going for a heisman against a top team....he showed up and then i saw him after the game getting on the bus ..... he looked like a worn-out warrior, a true badass who left it all on the field....
that being said,
1 Herschel Walker- in the national championship they only had like three passes completed and still won
2 Bo Jackson
the rest

Never in person, but yes I watched both play. And if you are saying teams stacked the box against Walker and Jackson, but not against DMac, I have to ask if you ever saw him play.
Yes, I did. He was nowhere close to Herschel or Bo.

Are you talking a bout individual or team accomplishments or athletic ability?

As an objective outsider, I can say that Lionel "Little Train" James was a known back when he played at Auburn. Different style of player, a lot like Darren Sproles, or more recently Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
Little Train also played 5 years in the NFL for the Chargers and set NFL records (at that time) for All-Purpose Yards in a Season (2535 yards) and Receiving Yards by a Running Back in a Season (1027 yards).
The fullback while Bo was at Auburn, Tommie Agee, played 8 years in the NFL with several teams.
Bo’s backup, Brent Fullwood, was the fourth overall pick in the 1987 NFL Draft. His subsequent NFL career was a short failure (4 years), but he was the fourth overall pick because he was a helluva college running back.
Another of Bo’s backups, Tim Jessie was a low (11th) round pick, but he parlayed that into a 6 year NFL career.

About being the best college football player ever. Herschel and Bo were grown men amongst boys. McFadden was a young man amongst boys. I don't think there is any college football fan (save Arkansas fans) that saw all of them play that would have McFadden anywhere close to either of them. I'm not here to shite on McFadden. He was damn good. One of the five or so best college RB's I've seen. He just isn't Herschel or Bo.

“McFadden didn't benefit from Jones or Hillis but the opposite.”
So when Peyton Hillis was having a better NFL season than any of poor McFadden’s it was because defenses were keying on McFadden in Oakland while playing the Browns?

You make no sense. If you knew anything about football you would know that the Raiders had the worst online in the league while McFadden was there. One year they were so short on linemen they brought in 2 players who had been released by other teams and they started most of the season. Hard to run when there are 2 or 3 defensive players in the backfield before you get the handoff. He also had injuries which hurt his career. The 1 year when he played 14of the 16 games he went over 1000 yards led the league in average per carry, runs over 20 yards, and yards after contact. They also had an inept passing attack allowing defenses to key against the run. Also, Carson Palmer, who was in the league for many years and before injuries was a top QB said many times that McFadden was the best player in the league Just the facts Ma’am.

McFadden still had a better career and lasted longer in the NFL despite being injury prone most of his career.
But hey if you want to argue that Hillis is better than McFadden then more power to you.

They are both great athletes, two of the best ever. Don't disrespect either one of them. I never saw Walker up close and personal, but I did Bo.
He ran me over as a scout team DE like a bug hitting a windshield at McAdory back in 81. He played RB, DE, and was our placekicker. He kicked it through the end zone on kickoffs almost every time. Not into the end zone, but past it. In spring, Bo was playing baseball and excelling at it when one of our coaches came up to him and asked him if had ever run track. He said no. Coach said the Jefferson County championships were the next day, did Bo want to go? Bo said sure. He won and qualifed for the state meet in the 100 meter dash, the long jump, and the high jump. He was just an incredibly athletic person. Raw, but no limit to his potential. If he had spent any time honing his craft on anything beyond baseball and football, he would have excelled at it. He could have been an Olympian at track and field, no doubt.
I imagine Herschel was the same. Look at his bobsledding experiment. Just amazing that two of the greatest athletes to ever walk the planet were so close in geography and time. Tip your hat to both of them. I'm proud to be able to say I got decleated by Bo!

But those are not facts ma’am, just more excuse making and delusion which has hit a level here I’ve never seen in my life btw. You must have missed the years he played in Dallas behind one of, if not the best Oline in the NFL. You also ignore that Hillis played for the CLEVELAND BROWNS who were much worse than Oakland. “Facts” lmfao you guys don’t know the meaning of the word.

Good post.
The irony is that arguments are made that Bo is the better athlete despite Herschel having faster times in the 60 yard and 100 meter.
Im sure Bo is the better hockey player in socks, guitar player, diver, and swimmer. Probably better at golf and darts. Definitely the better hunter.
But he isnt faster. He isnt the better running back. Just a better money maker out of Madison Avenue.

The time McFadden landed in Dallas, he was still injured and against hungrier competition. His physical prime was behind him and he retired. McFadden was washed up.
Cleveland and Oakland are shite and trying to portray that Oakland is such a better situation than Cleveland is silly.

He had his second best season in Dallas and his best by a wide margin in 5 years. “Hungrier competition” against Joseph Randle and Robert Turbin? You do know he was the starter right? You’re the one who claimed again that McFadden was in a much more disadvantaged situation even though Oakland won at well past the rate Cleveland did during their respective times at each franchise. You constantly assert standards then when it’s exposed as faulty you not only run from it but pretend I introduced it. The excuse making here is so bad it’s almost indistinguishable from trolling. I’m not even sure you saw this guy play, your knowledge of him seems to come from stories you’ve heard and highlights.

Yes he had one good year in Dallas but his life expectancy of a RB was coming to an end. Younger competition was going to take him out as a starter. You have to consider the possibility that McFadden didn't have passion for the game like he had in the past. His decisions off the field also had an impact on the field.
I don't watch the NFL as once a former player is no longer in school, I don't follow them as much. But when McFadden got drafted by Oakland back in 2008, it was just a matter of time before Oakland chewed him up. Anyone knew it would be a tough situation because Oakland wasn't a winner.
His running style never changed when he left Arkansas and that was part of his downfall. His IQ as a running back wasn't very high. Sometimes bad things happen which can't be explained.
So Darren McFadden had a disappointing career on a combination of being on a bad franchise, a running style that made him injury prone, stupid off the field injuries and just maybe he lost the passion to want to play the game.
