re: Blame the ref that called the terrible PI call on the UT defensive back...

Why are so many upset at throwing stuff on the field????
Back in the Big 8 , when the Orange Bowl sometimes determined the NC, we would throw oranges out on the field when it looked like we clenched the Orange Bowl…. First time is a warning second time is a penalty.
At TTU they threw tortillas out on the field,, Other places had their projectile of choice beer, batteries, etc……
As much a part of the game as burning a couch in WVU….

bullshite. You think you sound reasonable with the “got it right” argument but you are a Texas fan and not objective in this situation. There was contact and it’s a judgment call. There is no black and white “got it right” here.
The overriding issue is that they made a judgment call then used the delay to reverse a judgment call in favor of the home fans that were disrupting the game.
A new low for our terrible SEC officiating.

They did. The 2 closest to it discussed before making the initial PI call.
What happened is that after the call was made there was 5 minutes of bullshite instead of UGA getting on to next play.
During that 5 minutes of garbage throwing and cleanup the other refs undoubtedly watched the play on the stadium board and decided to change the call.
No need to be a complete dumbass about what happened. “ Ends justify the means”… is that what you are advocating for???
Good god what a dumb as frick take you are making in the larger scheme of shitty calls week after week.

Chicken I respect you for actually having the correct take.

Absolutely. Going to make a great power bottom for them.

Doesn’t matter, only ramification was that instead of a big arse whooping, it became a regular arse whooping.

SEC refs make horrible PI calls every week.
I get that.
But this is the first time that a crowd threw a tantrum and got rewarded for it. No tantrum, no overturn of the call. If it had happened at Georgia, no crowd tantrum, no overturn of the call. Just a chorus of boos, no overturn of the call.
The home crowd always erupts at a bad call. This is the first time the home crowd erupted, caused the teams to leave their benches for safety reasons because they were throwing things, caused a long delay of game - and were then awarded for it by getting the bad call overturned.
Home crowds are now on notice. A bad call is highlighted on the stadium video screen, start tossing things and you have a good chance of getting the bad call overturned in your favor.
Good one on the Texas crowd, but a cowardly move by the refs that will cause this to be repeated again and again. JMHO.

should have been called offensive PI from the get-go and we wouldn't have had that mess. I am not surprised the UT students threw stuff after seeing the replay.
Ultimately they got the call right...but they should have huddled up as a group before making the initial call.
It looked like a great play in real time, like the WR initiated the contact, an errant thrown and a pic.
PI was a bad call. The replay confirmed it was bad call. After the ref's huddled on the field, they confirmed the bad call was a bad call, called PI, marked off the penalty. Okay.
It's not like a bad call doesn't happen once in every game. That should have been end of it. Line up and play.
Unfortunate that the students acted like ... students.
Then, they reversed the call? To say the least, it was unprecedented. You couldn't hear the on field explanation, if there was one. Is there a secret bat phone?
Congrats to Georgia. Good physical football game. Kirby out coached Sark; Kirby 1, Sark 0.
The dual B1 Flyover was awesome. I didn't expect that to be the highlight of the night.

I thought you were talking about the UT-Bama game. Bama was aided and abetted to the first score on a completely bogus PI call on a third and 12 pass at midfield. It was incomplete to make it 4th and 12, except the ninny ref call PI when the defender didn't touch him. Just because a receiver lays out for the catch doesn't mean the defender pushed him.

Texass needs to control its trash fans or else gtfo of the conference.

Death Valley would go berserk with this TX standard.

Yes it was a bad call and you are absolutely correct. Once the official penalty has been called it can not be reversed on a non reviewable penalty.
Posted on 10/20/24 at 12:42 pm to Chicken
It was absolutely the right call.
It should never come as a result of the tantrum.
A bad call would have been a better result.
They just incentivized this behavior.

I think the crowd reaction to the replay had a lot to do with it too...perhaps one of the refs saw the replay out the corner of his eye and let the other dudes know they messed up.
That sounds a whole lot like a Review

What people are not getting is it is against the rules. They can discuss it before hand and pick up the flag but once the official penalty has been called they can not then go back and change the call. It's a non reviewable, non challengeable penalty.

I'm glad they overturned the call, even if it broke standard procedure. Now, TX has nothing they can point to and cry about as an excuse for losing.

The problem is that they ONLY got the call right because the fans threw trash on the field.
They made the call. They announced it. They moved the chains and spotted the ball and UGA lined up to run the next play.
Then the fans threw trash on the field and delayed the game. Because of that the officials had time to reconsider and reversed the penalty (which is NOT reversable). They didn't pull the flag... that happens BEFORE the penalty is announced. They reversed it after it was announced and the ball was spotted.
The problem this creates is that we now have a precedent that fans can interfere with the game if they don't like the call in order to get a non-reversible penalty reversed.
Can you see how that's an issue?
This isn't about who won the game. UGA won anyway. It's about the impact of the ref's decision. It's a pretty drastic impact. Every home fan base is going to do this if they think the refs got a call wrong now.
