Sure they will wait.
If LSU were to drag it out that long, they’d be getting a whole lot more than 54 million.
This ends one of three ways. LSU pays him his full buyout in the six years specified, he takes a lump sum payment in the 40 million+ range, or LSU loses it’s arse in court.

Louisiana Governor is doing good work here.
I may be incorrect but the governor is not wrong...it is my understanding that he basically said contract buy outs are utterly ridiculous....and they are. I doubt ANY program wants to offer one...they have to do so to compete and retain coaches. I know it is not the governors place BUT he did not say anything which ain't been said on this board many times...buy outs are utterly ridiculous.

he'll take the lump sum, be interesting to see how much it is

Yeah, to be honest, as a booster I would be pissed at the whole situation and feel like I’m enabling the problem to continue. You can’t just keep making stupid contractual decisions and expect some boosters to continually bail you out…it just incentivizes the problem if you do.
How big a jock sniffer does one have to be to be in a place that they are willing to pay so much money to a college football coach in the first place? I love college football but If I had Elon Musk's money I wouldn't be a UGA jock sniffer to the tune of $50 million. What kind of access do these jock sniffers have???? It is utterly ridiculous anyway you slice it. I know its a HUGE business and the job is a grind but jumping christ in a handbasket to hand millions of dollars to a program to make the football team successful and it seldom works out is just a ridiculously emotional thing to do.

nothing in the contract says we have to pay him in a certain amount of time
It most certainly does. The entire amount must be paid in equal installments and fully paid by the end of the contract, which is 2031.
The contract has been posted numerous times. You’re still paying him because the contract says you have to keep paying him. You’ll also keep paying him if he finds a new job. The only difference is you’ll reduce the check by ever how much he makes in that job. It also doesn’t have to be a head coaching job or even a coaching job at all. He could sign on with a network doing Saturday games making few hundred thousand and LSU would pay the rest.

The contract is the contract is the contract.
Why do people get their hopes up about shite like this?
They will pay BK whatever the contract requires.
Agent attorneys ain’t fricking that up when negotiating with AD.

private equity ruins everything it touches and we need to move away from it as a society.
And I second the opinion that the UC Investments / BigTen Enterprises deal is terrible all the way around

Downvoting for inadequate number of jock sniffer references.

I agree he may take a lump sum, but the only way for it to make sense for him is if it’s in the 40 million range. That’s what it would take to ensure he would have the same amount at the end of six years as he would have if he took it in payouts. The 25-30 LSU has offered isn’t happening.

Where did it say it was obtained by a FOIA request?
Admittedly, I just scanned it and the link. Media people do have sauces. Much faster than any FOIA request.
And, this is where they are fricked. It will be a full pmt of installments or a lump sum with fair valuation to full term, which I assume will be 45-46 million.

Because it was state records and not federal records it was not a FOIA but a public records request. I used the incorrect term, I apologize.

Some booster or boosters will pay the buyout but be reimbursed through lucrative
State contracts. It will take two or three
separate transactions to funnel the money
back to the boosters but is will be done.

From that email:
I will translate this for you LSU fans.
He is saying he wants and expects his $54 million buyout. But he is willing to negotiate how and when he is paid it. If you have ever been to the bank and withdrawn $100 you may have been asked if you wanted it in $20s or a single $100 bill. This is like that, except we are talking about $54 million dollars.
