The fact you mention Red means we lived in the same area and are about the same age. Red was a local legend.

My Saturday nights consisted of Red and then Continental Championship wrestling live from the Houston County Farm Center. Lol. What a time to be alive

Bill Dance is a national treasure.
Love the bloopers.

My wife hit my truck hitch the other day. I instantly thought of BD

Bill Dance was a shitty fisherman

He was a hell of a fisherman. It was just that the fish he sought were the ones sitting at home willing to spend grocery and cigarette money on a 24.99 Watcha-ma-Kallit rig that is "unlike any I've ever seen before..." until next weeks show and new sponsors rig that is.

His bloopers were likely no less than 90% staged. It was part of the flow of his show and sought to make him the laughable, loveable, relatable arse clown in an orange hat that he was. Because "if that goof ball can effortlessly pull out 10 lb bass with an Alabama Rig... why can't I? Honey, get me the credit card..."

I’ve caught many bass on a bill dance “Dancing eel”. I never was a diawa fan though. Compared to the stuff out there today his stuff was tame. I saw a guy using a fake spider a couple moths ago that was a 30.00 gimmick. It was a lure designed to catch a fisherman more than a fish but it was sound in principle. Top water fishing is about presentation over realism.

I’ve met Bill Dance a couple of times and have a signed hat from a tournament I worked a sponsor table for (cabelas had him as the celebrity draw)
