Off the top of my head at UT, DT Kahlil McKenzie would have to be up there. 5 star recruit that missed his senior year in HS. Came to UT out of shape and never really did much. Left early to get ready for the NFL draft where he was moved to OG (where he should have been at UT)

Since he left UT he was at KC for 1 year...Seahawks for 1 year on the practice squad..DC Defenders and was traded to the LA Wildcats and just this week was picked up again by the Seahawks.

The only thing keeping Kyle Allen from being a bust was that he became the starter for the Panthers.

Wasn't Nkemdiche a 1st round draft choice?

He must've done something good in College to be a 1st round draft choice

Hard to call that guy a bust

- Trenton Thompson?

IMO Thompson did well, but should've stayed in Sr year...
Eason never had the chance because of Fromm, not really a bust for UGA but it would've been interesting to see what could've been.
Theus was pivotal for UGA but I can see how he could be perceived as a bust
Drew defiantly didn't live up to hype, I think it was the coaches he had at the time.

Yea, I don't really consider guys who leave early for a transfer "busts" usually. They kind of fall into a different category, especially if they go somewhere else and perform well (Eason, Fields).

Quay Evans and Nick James both had so much upside, but couldn't get themselves right off the field. Those two stick out among recent Mississippi State busts.

Didn't we lose out on Quinshad Davis out of Gaffeny because we went with Roland instead? Roland would be a bust, Davis would set school records at UNC.

David Williams (running back. Finished at Arky)

He actually did ok his one year here. Why was he considered a bust at SC? I don't recall him being highly touted out of HS.

We don't have the greatest history with 5* recruits. Since 2010 I'd definitely throw Khalil McKenzie in that boat. Given the hype he got when recruited(#1 JUCO player) and all the folks that wanted him, I'd say Jonathan Kongbo was a bust. He played alot better his last year before getting hurt, but never lived up to the hype that he came in with. Drew Richmond is another. Had a big list of schools that wanted him. Was soft as charmin on the line, ended up transferring to So. Cal. I looked back at our classes on Rivals and there were several 5*'s that were busts for us pre 2010...

Brandon Jefferies: don't think he ever played a meaningful down for us and I believe transferred back to NCSU
Chris Donald: 5* LB from a small TN school, never did anything at TN, transferred to UTC
Ben Martin: 5* recruit with bad knees
Kenny O'Neal: 5*, too dumb to learn his routes, transferred
Brent Vinson: 5*, not sure he every contributed, I believe he got arrested
Walter Fisher: 5*, stats say he played, but I can't remember anything about him

TN busts via Bleacher Report
Bryce Brown's one year with us was decent, overall would be a bust though

Ray Drew is at the top of the list.

FWIW, Marlon Brown came on his last year and had some quality playing time in the NFL.

None of the guys listed for UGA were actual bust. Maybe didnt' meet expectations but they played valuable minutes for UGA during their time at UGA. Trenton Thompson was probably the choice considering he actually was considered the number 1 player. I would say most of these guys were misses.

Christian Lemay never made the field. This in my opinion would be the most glaring busts although as a QB sometimes your just outclassed by someone on staff.

God, and he talked so much shite when being recruited to. I expected a beast out of him and Trenton Thompson. Both never materialized on the field.

There have been plenty of 5* talents to underperform or wash out, but Antonio Alfano is #1 in my lifetime. He's sort of in a league of his own.

Yes, he is a basketcase which ruins talent unfortunately.

Eyabi Anomi is kinda blazing his own trail as well for Bama.

Both of those dudes were expected not only be good players but 1st round NFL locks and just can't get out of their own way.

LSU’s was Russell Shepard. We may have been able to salvage his college career had we been able to use him correctly as a WR or wildcat type QB, but our staff never could quite figure it out.

Hard to call him a complete bust given how long he’s been in the NFL now but he definitely didn’t live up to the number one overall recruit arguably through no fault of his own. He was dynamic with this ball in his hands and worked his arse off. But like you said, Miles was clueless as to how to use a player like him.

I’ll nominate Malachi Dupre for LSU. Did very little in college as a 5 star. Despite that, still left early, drafted lated or not at all can’t remember. In 4 years, he was on an active NFL roster two weeks. He most recently was in the XFL.

He dominated at every single camp he attended, and somehow forgot how to play football after making it to Knoxville.
