He did beat the #8 team, #6 team, #2 team in 3 consecutive games in 2014
And then all of those teams tanked and finished with 5 losses each. Big deal.

I get that the west is harder but if Mullen succeeded at MSU is it so hard to fathom that a coach who is 3-0 against him might also have thrived?
Kirby is .500 against the West with Georgia talent, why do you think he'd do better with Mississippi State talent?
He can't even stop his team from getting blown out two years in a row against LSU, imagine if he had to coach with Mississippi State talent.
Kirby's great with a huge pocketbook in a talent rich state with no real in-state rival, but he would be absolute dogshit without those crutches. The good news is he'll never be short with talent, the bad news is that he can't seem to stop his team from getting blown out once a season despite having extremely high amounts of talent.

Based on final rankings I think LSU 2017 was the best team he ever beat at State. And they won that game by 30. I realize LSU lost to Troy soon after that but they still had a good year and it's a win that holds up well.
2014 LSU was massive because State hadn't beaten LSU in 15 years before that and hadn't won in Baton Rouge since '91, and frankly Mullen didn't really have a memorable win to that point other than a couple of Egg Bowls and some wins against some blue bloods having down years in 2010 (Georgia, Florida, and Michigan). And once they won that LSU game on the road (and pretty convincingly) you really liked their chances against A&M and Auburn at home the next two weeks. I know the 2014 Auburn win is massive and very iconic for State fans, but I've always preferred the win in Baton Rouge more for whatever reason.
Fast forward to his time at Florida, that win in Starkville is an underrated one for him. I realize that Joe Moorhead sucked and that State team was a disappointment, but I was convinced there was no way State was losing that game at home. I thought Mullen had a great gameplan for an elite State defense. Called a lot of screens and stayed the heck away from State's d-line. And then that set up the double pass that ended up being the game-winning TD, which he also happened to call at the exact moment State rotated John Abram off the field for a play. It was a play Mullen had been setting up the entire game and he called it at exactly the right time.
State still probably wins that game if not for an awful dropped TD in the third quarter, but I still thought Mullen came out of that game really looking like a good coach and kinda stuck it to the State fans that thought Moorhead was going to be better than him.

2017 State came sooo close against Bama. That would've been his signature win there, I think after that he decided he'd never get past Bama at MSU

You might be the worst typer I’ve ever seen on the internet.

2017. A lot more recent than Florida's last big win that was in 2008.

So big wins are only national championship now? Florida is going to be waiting awhile

Lost to every top 20 team you played including giving up 49 pts to GF.
The Bama loss was a solid effort though.

No doubt about that and Alabama won 13 games that year.
But people also for the 2014 season where MSU dominated the second half vs Alabama and although we lost 20-25, I felt like only the clock was our worse enemy. Bama got the big lead first half then MSU kept crawling back in slowly the entire second half.

Well, it does mean they were vastly overrated when yall beat them, so you are right.
