Man, talk about a flameout. Not sure I can recall (off the top of my head) a more irrational, out of control dude. It honestly boggles my mind that someone could get that far gone and nobody able to reel him in.

If Saban didn't have such a lock on the "angry elf" meme, Bo would be my next most logical choice for it.

I know it’s early but Petrino may end up the best. We’ll reevaluate after we run the table this year

OC-Josh Heupel offense was ranked 13th and 14th nationally in his 2 years at Mizzou.

As you pointed out, not every coordinator is cut out to be a HC. But Bo put some nasty defenses on the field during his first stint at LSU.

Erk Russell should have been the head coach after Dooley

Dooley should have left when he flirted with leaving and we would have had Erk.

Instead, we got Goof. Shoulda woulda coulda. Hard to believe it all spiralled into what would become the 90s.

Ken Donahue.

Bear Bryant would say the same thing. He stayed with Bear for 20 years. He came back home to Tennessee after Bear passed away.

Ken Donahue (February 28, 1925 – March 21, 2001) was an American football player and coach. He played college football at the University of Tennessee and served as an assistant coach at the University of Alabama under Bear Bryant. Donahue and four other men, Pat Dye, Bill Oliver, and Paul Bryant, created the multiple defense scheme that allowed the players to switch defenses quickly. The 4-3 and 5-2 schemes are still used by NCAA and NFL teams today. The scheme became popular because it allowed players to learn a minimum amount of technique, while allowing them to maximize the use of their strengths.

Following his tenure at Alabama, Donahue was hired as the defensive coordinator for Tennessee. He is best remembered for the 1985 season, when his defense held the Vols' final seven opponents to just four touchdowns, and provided a major catalyst for the team's 35–7 upset of Miami in the Sugar Bowl.

The 90’s and the 50’s were definitely the dark ages. Both were the product of 2 HOF coaches (Butts & Dooley) staying too long with no good plan for what to do next.

Read an article last year which did a deep dive into the whole Dooley/Erk/Goof fiasco.

Ken Donahue was the absolute best assistant to ever stand on the sidelines.

He learned defense under the greatest defensive mind ever, General Robert R. Neyland. If there were ever anyone who came close to Neyland on defensive schemes, it was Donahue.

I thought about Pelini as well but considered his second stint as wholly disqualifying.

His offenses have never been the problem when he's been the HC.

OC - Lane Kiffin. He was an unbelievable coordinator for us. It seemed like he was always able to pull a rabbit out of his hat whenever we needed it. Brilliant play caller

DC - Pruitt. This is somewhat subjective, but I loved the style of defense that Pruitt coached. It's honestly bad for football that he's no longer allowed to coach. His defense in 2016 was the best college defense I've ever seen. He has an aggressive style that I enjoy
