People will automatically respond with "Bama", but if you ask any of their recent coaches, not named Saban, would he say the same. The pressure to win championships there. is tremendous. I feel sorry for the guy who has to follow in Saban's shoes.

Let's be honest, any SEC head coach job would be great to have except MSU, they suck.
They will all pay well and almost every one has a great location. Some are more demanding than others.
1. I would honestly put Florida as the top destination in the SEC. Gainesville is pretty awesome, they pay very well and the recruiting is built in.
2. Vanderbilt. Franklin is making 2 mil a year, needs to win 6 or 7 a year to keep his job and Nashville is pretty badass.
I wouldn't put Alabama, or Auburn as top 10 just because you have to deal with the loony fricks of the other fanbase and the retardedly high demands of the jobs.

yup that poor bastard doesn't stand a chance. realistic expectations and sabans replacement would not go together

Vandy. Low expectations, minimal to no crazy sidewalk fans, and you get to live in Nashville.

The Alabama job isn't for everybody. If you can't handle life in the fishbowl, then you're going to lose. But that's probably the case at most elite jobs. At Bama, it's 24/7 though.
That said, a coach at UA will always have resources at Alabama (facilities, recruits, money) that will allow him to be compete for championships.
IMO, Florida is probably the best job in the nation.

Carolina, Vandy, Kentucky, Ms.State, and Mizzou.
If you have no aspirations of championships, but instead to have a good paying job for years, any of these schools will keep you around until retirement provide you can get them too and keep them competing at a mediocre level.

I think it's LSU.
The LSU fanbase is just as voracious as Alabama or anyone else.
Florida might have better overall home state to recruit in, but they have to share it with two other major in state schools as well as everyone else in the SEC and few national programs. Whereas a competent LSU head coach can lock down the entire talent-rich state of LA for himself and pick-up blue chips from neighboring TX as well.
In the mind of every recruit and the national consciousness, LSU is a highly recognized brand, at least since the Saban era started. Yes, Alabama and Tennessee have much more history and winning, but history before the BCS era has rather diminishing returns and is highly overvalued. UT's history has done it zero good since Phil's departure.
LSU also undeniably has the best home field advantage in the country.
Don't get me wrong though, I still hate everything purple and gold.

LSU. Very strong in-state talent with no in-state competition and very little outside competition. Easily the best job IMO.

I went for a mathematics degree. At a college much more highly ranked than anything you rednecks in Arkansas could dream of.

Bama is the best job but it takes a certain kind of man to succeed in the position.
Someone no non-sense, with a thick skin, who does things their way without regard for outside influence.
If you look at coaches like Bryant, Stallings, Saban, they've all had that in common.
Someone like Richt never would have lasted at Alabama. Nice guys have no chance at Bama. Too much pressure, expectations, and people constantly bitching.

Then what would make it the best job in the SEC?

The best way to look at this is which school has the longest history of keeping bad coaches around. I'd go with UK, UGA, MU, MSU, or UGA probably, although that is just spitballing.

a. you can frick yourself.
b. I asked a question. What would make Alabama the best job in the SEC over the likes of LSU, Florida, UGA and even Vandy. This was in response to a dumbass statement that Bama is the best job in the SEC but it takes a special coach to do it and then they rattled off 3 coaches in 50 years. That to me screams that it is the opposite of the best job.
And for the record, I wouldn't put Bama nor Auburn in the top 10 in the SEC just because of having to deal with douchebag fans in close proximity. No other school has to deal with the in state pressure that those two schools do and the shitstorm that is the rival fanbase.

UGA
Beautiful location, campus and stadium, easy to replenish talent that can win you 8+ games w/o even trying, has slightly more modest expectations than other top programs, and if you were to get them a title you'd be a god and have life tenure.
