But, but, but,
Hell I can't think of an excuse.
Yet.

Pruitt has shut Gus' arse down since the 1st half of the BCSNC game...
Gus' "O" has scored a grand total of 17 points & amassed 469yds of ttl "O" in 6 quarters since Pruitt figured Gus' out...
Pruitt's D has beaten #2 AU & #9 AU the last 2 years. That's moving a terrible D in the right direction IMO... Also beat final ranked teams in Clemson, Mizzou & Louisville along with AU in '14...
Since FSU started using Gatorade towels in the BCSCG.

Kirby could be great under his own right, but no one will ever truly know that until he cuts the cord
I'm sure he'll sleep just fine tonight not being at the top of the best DC poll on the SEC Rant. He makes $1.5 million a year and has been able to stay in one spot and raise his family to this point. I don't think he'll be "cutting the cord" just to prove to you he is good at his job.

Coaching at Alabama under Saban has been an absolute blessing for Smart. If you think he could replicate that type success at another school under another coach, let's wait until he finds the courage to leave his security blanket.
Maybe so, but you asked this question:
quote:
how many times has any d coordinator under saban not had a top 5-10 defense nationally? now deflect
and I gave you an answer that far more times than not outside of Smart, Saban's D coordinator have not field top 5-10 defenses nationally. Again his D coordinators outside of Smart are at an 8% clip for scoring defenses in the top 10 and a 25% clip for total defenses in the top 10. Whereas Smart is at 100% and 86% respectively.
Just the facts.

By the way, even though I was just answering the question asked, I do agree that the combination of Saban (elite coach) + Alabama (elite program with historically great defensive play) has been quite a perfect situation for Smart. He is certainly a good coordinator, but it doesn't get much better of a situation than that. I'll give Smart his credit - Saban's defenses have risen to yet another level with him as D coordinator - but I agree it comes with a sizeable caveat.

Auburn team that obviously had given up and they think he's some zenmaster now.
quote:Yet it was the AU offense that couldn't score more than one touchdown in the second half. Maybe one successful drive against Pruitt in the 3rd quarter and Auburn is National Champions.
Auburn schooled him with 31 pts in the BCSNCG, but of course our defense couldn't hold up their end of the bargain.

He'll cut the cord if he ever decides he wants to be a head coach and double his salary. No one ever implied he wasn't content in his current situation. That seems pretty obvious at this point. Who implied that he cared what the rant thinks of him? I mean why discuss anything on here. It's not like it has an effect on what the coaches think or do

1)Smart: Top recruiter, top statistical defense over 5 years and develops players for the NFL
2)Pruitt: Rebuilt both FSU and UGA, can recruit at an elite level, not far behind Smart overall but less proven
3)Muschamp: Time at UT took away some appeal IMO, but can recruit and develop players
4)Chavis: doesnt recruit and 4th quarter defense issues puts him in the 2nd tier IMO
Chizik would've been my first call if I were LSU, but I have to think he was ready to get away from the SEC after his stint at Auburn

Muschamp has proven himself elsewhere. Smart has not

Smart is a product of Saban
WM is better than Smart from what I've seen. His LSU defenses were definitely products of Saban but he has produced defensively pretty much at every stop. Still rate Chief slightly ahead. He helped create the best defenses ever at two different schools. Pretty damn slick.

At this stage, all of the schools that have them have to be pretty happy.
To be honest, they have all had some seriously talented squads to work with as well. I'd be more interested in seeing coordinators who did more with less... say a team like Vandy finishing in the top 20 overall.

Ehh... if the UF game discredits Pruitt then Muschamp is also out due to some of his Florida and Texas defensive performances. I mean a great defensive mind probably also shouldn't give up the most yards in school history in a game; or get run over by a substantially less talented team than the one that ran over Georgia, or let UK drop bombs all over them, or get 40+ dropped on them in back to back games; or a half dozen other things Boom did in Gainesville.
