I can't vote against Smart. The man has fielded the SEC's best defense and a top five national unit 6 times in the last 8 years.
I would also pick Muschamp over Chavis.

When talking about the best head coaches: "Saban. Duh. I mean, just look at what he's done with the Bama defense since he's been here. He has built this defense into the best in CFB pretty much on his own. He's the best defensive mind in the game." When talking about the best DC's: "Smart. Duh. I mean, Saban's defenses were pretty good before him, but just look at them bad boys now! Smart is the best defensive mind in the game!"
Well don't forget Saban made Muschamp who he is also.

I'll split a vote with Chavis & Champ. This season will be telling for both. Both have worked for a couple of diff HC with success while Kirby is just CNS's boy. Kirby may be the best eva, but until he spreads his wings without CNS, he will always be Nick's boy and not his own man. JMO
BTW -- Saban no more made Champ than Fulmer made Chavis. Champ has worked for Tubs and Brown as well -- both good coaches. CNS doesn't have the magic touch on all assts -- see Derek Dooley

Muschamp also fielded top 10 defenses at two different other schools outside of Saban. Everyone learns from someone. Saban learned under Bill Belichick. An I think that just reinforces the point of what a great defensive mind Saban is. Kirby could be great under his own right, but no one will ever truly know that until he cuts the cord

Why can't we put Kevin Steele on the ballot? I would vote for Steele.

Chavis, I honestly don't think Muschamp can handle working without a ball control based offense and I think Auburn will start slowing down the pace to accomodate him just like Mack Brown and Tommy Tubberville did at his last two DC stops.

I don't think the best dc should ever give up over 420 rushing yards to a 7-5 team with the #96 offense.

somehow dawgs think he's some amazing DC when he hasn't done shite to prove that.
Pruitt has shut Gus' arse down since the 1st half of the BCSNC game...
Gus' "O" has scored a grand total of 17 points & amassed 469yds of ttl "O" in 6 quarters since Pruitt figured Gus' out...
Pruitt's D has beaten #2 AU & #9 AU the last 2 years. That's moving a terrible D in the right direction IMO...
Also beat 4 teams ranked at seasons end in Clemson, Mizzou & Louisville along with AU in '14...
