A couple of states that jumped out at me were:

Tennessee
Arkansas
North Carolina
Texas
Missouri (this has to be by default right?)

I know UNC is bad but is NC State that bad now? Or is App State just that decent?

"Arkansas -- Arkansas State: Arkansas went from bad to worse in 2018 when it went 2-10 in Chad Morris' first year at the helm. Across the state, Arkansas State went 8-5 and 5-3 in the Sun Belt. They both got smoked by Alabama, so there goes that comparison. It's impossible for us to put a 2-10 team in here when there's another FBS program that went 8-5. Maybe if the two would play each other every once in a while… --Sallee

It's a non-SEC state so I guess I just haven't been paying that much attention to what is going on in NC. I knew App State gave Tennessee a scare recently, but they are the third best team in their state according to this list. Is Armani Edwards still dusting folks over at App State?

It is funny that he mentions this but doesn't want to bring up the scores and also leaves out the mutual Tulsa game.

Arkansas 29-0

Arkansas St. 29-20

That being said, we sucked last year so I don't really mind.

Because your team hasn't been very good since Franklin (that was the QB right?) graduated. Again, it's a non-SEC state so I haven't paid that much attention.

He's a literal chigger. We don't see him or really remember him but he can aggravate the shite out of us.

North Carolina

They went 11-2 last year
Were a great FCS program and could have easily beat any team from NC last year
Well maybe not NC State that’s a toss up.

But ECU and UNC were trash last year

They've been to Atlanta more times since Franklin graduated than Miss. State has been in the last 21 years.

Why is Missouri a surprise?

Theyre probably a better team than all the 8 surrounding states (except Oklahoma)

And please, we both finished 8-5 last year, MSU isnt a superior program

Congrats on being in the East. What does that have to do with anything?

This fact is what always makes me chuckle when the odd Clemson fan throws a barb at the trip we're taking to App St. soon. It's better competition than their ACC counterparts in the state and the atmosphere is at least on par with Duke and WF.

I never made this argument.

But as another poster pointed out you have benefited from being in the East (although I do think the East is on it's way up) since joining the league.

Since joining the SEC Missouri is a respectable 7-9 against the West. However, the Tigers are 3-8 against anyone not named Arkansas over that period and have been outscored 362-534 overall. I will say that after reviewing their record over the last seven years Mizzou is better than I had given them credit for.

I'm not trying to claim that Mississippi State is a better program, only support my stance in being surprised that Missouri was labeled the best D1 team in that state.
