Apropos of nothing, the Shane Smith fiddle player is from Lexington

Well where were you last Saturday
All dressed up so pretty
With your blue-eyed ballroom boy
In Oklahoma City

Speaking of little man, BlackBerry Smoke is another good southern band.

my boy SCL knows what's up

Well she was born in the morning late October San Antone
Aw she's every girl I've ever known
She don't talk about religion she talks about the stones
Oh she's every girl I've ever known
And her tongue is like the Devil when she tries to concentrate
She says she don't want marriage but she still believes in fate
And she stands her ground to defiantly but cries when she's alone
Oh she's every girl I've ever known

Don't forget Jason Boland and Cross Canadian Ragweed. Both got their starts in Stillwater.

Just replying in general.
Love Turnpike. New album is excellent. Don't really care about the personsl drama. Glad they are making good music again.
I'll leave the pissing match over who gets to claim them and where Red Dirt originated to the middle school girls on the thread.

Texas Red Dirt is a subgenre and with respect I’d imagine Billy Bobs had a major contribution to that.
But Red Dirt country originated in Stillwater. Boland, Cody Canada, Stoney LaRue, red dirt rangers, etc.

IMO Smooth, soothing music, but they don't quite measure up to the iconic sounds of Southern bands like The Allman Brothers Band, Charlie Daniels Band, and Marshall Tucker Band.

Hey Tiger Eyes
Y'all had some really great, under the radar acts in Dr. John, The Subdudes and The Radiators.

My college girlfriend went to Oklahoma State so I spent a ton of time up there, went to Calf Fry twice, had a great time at both. Ali Pickens was actually one of her best friends, so I hung out with her a bunch, even got to go to Boone's ranch in the Panhandle once...it was unreal.
I loved going to Stillwater though, I would almost always stay until Tuesday so I could hammer the chili dogs at Eskimo Joes during MNF haha. There was a little hole in the wall Mexican restaurant north of campus that would serve us endless margaritas even though we were way too young, I forgot what it was called.
Also went to the worst strip club I have ever been to in my life in Stillwater, I think it was called the Dragons Lair or something
