Scarborough is a very good running back but there maybe two on his team that are better.
Too much hype for him. His very good but Guice and Harris both had better avg carry numbers.

quote:Terrible comparison. Alabama's defensive philosophy is totally different from Houston's. When is the last time you saw a team even try to run up the middle against Alabama (ask LSU)? Payne completely shuts the middle down while the DEs and LBs have their way with the running game. You don't pile up gaudy stats when folks won't even try you.
Ed Oliver, true freshmen, 12 games:
65 tackles (46 solo, 19 assists), 22.0 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks
DaRon Payne, SO, 15 games:
36 tackles (12 solo, 24 assists), 3.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks
Payne is no comparison for Oliver, and that's putting it lightly.
Oliver is already considered possibly the best player in CFB, and without a doubt top 5.... Payne, not so much.
When the 2019 draft comes around, Oliver will get serious consideration for #1 overall pick.
Payne is the #3 DT prospect among juniors at this point.

Wasn't his fault. His OL was complete shite.

Daron Payne still has no reason to be considered better than Ed Oliver at this point. He may be better and prove it in time, but Ed Oliver is a proven player.

I have to agree. Payne is a beast, but you can't really prove the argument he's better than Oliver at this point.
Might be the best DT in the conference though.

I'd say Guice is a better back than Barkley, but whatever, they're both in the conversation.
Regarding OL- I'm really not up on current players, but just generally speaking, I would think A&M and Wisconsin have to have somebody highly rated. They ALWAYS seem to.

But Payne is not single handily stopping the run up the middle by himself in most games. It is a team effort. Based off last season Oliver is better. Maybe Payne will do better next season but we'll see.

His final stat line was 10 for 27, 153 yds, no TDs. 26 carries for 33 yds.
Trying NOT to be a homer here... but those numbers in a bowl game, when you're the primary offensive option, should remove you from "best at position" consideration.
The prior year, LSU also lit up Texas Tech in a bowl, but Mahomes went 28/56 for 370 yds and 4 tds, 1 int.
Both bowl games, the teams were badly mismatched, and LSU sacked the crap out of both QBs. But Mahomes still put numbers up, while Jackson got dominated.

Payne is the main reason that teams don't even attempt to run inside, and that's the best defensive outcome that you can have for that position. Go back and check the running plays attempted between the DEs while Alabama was in the 3-4 defense, and you can better realize his worth.
Coach Jim Haslett told me that Payne was easily the best football player on Alabama's defense this year, for what it's worth.

Yeah but it's not like Allen and Tomlinson were scrubs in there on both sides of Payne.
Payne is great. But what stupid fricking team was going to try to run at Allen, Payne, and Tomlinson with Reuben Foster behind them?

Also he easily squatted 525 five times and it wasn't none of that above parallel bs, that jokers arse was almost on the floor. He probably could've gotten 3-5 more if he wanted to.
