None of these are Elite or near Elite basketball programs. BYU, Mizzou, and Xavier are ahead of Bama and nobody considers them apex predator basketball schools.

I know I'm getting lumped with the crazy person but no rational person would argue Alabama baskeball is elite.
They are consistently solid, have not had very many "bad" stretches, but have not capitalized on their best teams. Sometimes they choked (see Gottfried), sometimes they got unlucky (see playing the undefeated Indiana team) and sometimes they just lost. Either way, they didn't calitalize nationally.
However, consistently being good counts for something, more than 1 random Final Four and mostly mediocre to bad seasons (UGA as an example).
Alabama is to basketball what North Carolina or Iowa are to football.

Not saying this is only reason why alabama is better all time than lsu in basketball, But it proves that Alabama has consistently had better teams than lsu over the course of time because they have played 168 times and played just about every year they have had basketball teams.
There are outlier years ( like lsu final 4 seasons)

Like every sports team in America, yes we only care about championships. Not sure how that contradicts anything I'm saying about our place in the overall pecking order.

Think about this. If you were an lsu fan and you somehow lived 130+ years and watched every game alabama and lsu played in basketball...
You would see lsu win 67 times and see them lose 101 times...

beating rivals, winning every game, winning national titles, winning sec titles...

All of those regular season wins have gotten Alabama basically nothing in terms of the national championship tournament.

In that span, you'd also see much better conference runs (which garners national attention), more conference championships, more historical players, and a MNC.
