Interestingly enough, he would have been the head coach at Arkansas if the Japs had not bombed Pearl Harbor. So in a way, Bama can thank Tojo for that one.

He would eventually leave as Arkansas was a bad program at that time and it doesn't help that he wasn't an alumni.

Because Arkansas in the 30s was terrible in football and no one cared. More people were fans of the St.Louis cardinals than the razorbacks. That wasn't a hard decision for Bryant, same as Don Hutson.
