Be honest. Who would win these hypothetical national championship game matchups?

Let's assume there was a +1 or playoff system in place instead of the current BCS system for the last 13 years. How do you think the SEC championship winning teams would have fared in these matchups?

1998 Tennessee vs. Ohio State

2003 LSU vs. USC

2004 Auburn vs. USC

2006 Florida vs. USC or Florida vs. LSU rematch

2007 LSU vs. West Virginia

2008 Florida vs. USC

I honestly believe that the SEC team would have lost more games than they would have won. Also, who do you think would have won in a Florida vs. LSU rematch in 2006?

stupid.

a +1 would have had

Florida, Texas, Oklahoma and Alabama playing in it. Bama was still ranked 4th in the BCS after the SEC CG and the others were 1 thru 3.

It is very annoying to see USC in there so many times.

On a separate note it is very nice to see them where they are now.

A +1 system would have had the two best teams playing for the national championship AFTER the bowl games were completed. USC finished 2008 ranked #2 in the USA Today/Coaches Poll and I'm sure USC would have been ranked #2 in the Harris Poll as well. They almost certainly would have played Florida for a national championship if there was a Plus One format set in place.

Soo.... what about after it. A plus one would be done after Conference Championship games. Not after post season bowl games.

Why would the top four teams play in a separate Bowl game, instead of going straight into a +1?

Does it matter? Do you think Bama would have won the game?

Indeed.

If there's anything the last decade has proven, its that SEC Champions just can't hang with the big boys of the other conferences.

The only school that could hang with the big boys of the SEC is USC.

They were within 9 minutes of it the first time. It's doubtful, but still. The argument of doing a +1 after making the top 4 teams play a Bowl game is a crappy idea. Keep the Bowl games for the remaining teams, but the +1 would either be a part of the Bowl games or completely apart from them. No way they'd play a Bowl, then 2 more games.

The 2008 Florida offense vs the 2008 USC defense would have been a crazy good matchup.

This would have been awesome, sucks SC never got a shot at the SEC.

2008 is tough thou because you have to also factor in Texas and Utah. That's a season where the +1 still wouldn't solve everything.
