Absolutely. But this looks like Saban mislead Barnett and Bateman prior to the beginning of the season to prevent them from doing what Barnett eventually did a few weeks into the season. Saban probably figured that there was no way they would quit once the season started and he had an insurance policy should Hurts go down with an injury.

So Saban started Barnett against USC to just try and keep him on the roster? Did you read what you typed?

It was obvious that Bateman was not a SEC-caliber QB in 2015 - see the Ole Miss game. That he started btw.

Often, it's not so much to get get back at a player leaving, so much as sending a message to the other 85 guys on the team.

I get that, but what's the message in this situation to his other players? "Don't leave or I'll trash you in the media"?
quote:

Saban is right that about 99% of players that have left Alabama, have done absolutely nothing with their football careers elsewhere

This could be said about most transfers period, not just at Alabama. I can't think of any player off the top of my head, in football, that has left LSU and amounted to anything elsewhere either
quote:

Was that a good decision in hindsight? Probably not so much.

It's easy to look at that in hindsight. I also wouldn't exactly judge his decision based on how UGA and Bama did comparatively. Alabama clearly was fine without him. It's kind of a non-starter because clearly Alabama was going to be a better team and have more success than UGA with or without him. The real question is would it have made a difference for Smith personally?

In his 2015 season at Alabama, he wasn't a starter and recorded just 15 tackles and had just 1 pass breakup the entire season. Last season at UGA he was a regular starter and had 50 tackles, 2 INTS, and 3 PBUs. Would he have received the same amount of PT had he stayed at Alabama. Who knows? He still didn't get drafted but he was signed by the Dolphins as an UDFA, so I think it probably worked out fine for him.

Barnett's mom thought she had it all laid out, I've heard.

They were beat out by the SEC Offensive Player of the Year. They had ample time in Fall practice to separate themselves.

Bateman is currently 3rd string at Utah and Barnett seems like a drama queen.

Seems like the right decision was made.

If either would have played the rest of the year, they would have had a chance to be SEC POY. If you look at the SEC last year, the nearest competition were two players that didn't even play 3/4th of the year.

How about a Coach quitting on a player after the third series /

Last time I checked, one of the jobs of a head coach is to decide who the starters would be and get them the experience they need to be successful. Your comment is either meant to incite an argument, or you're very ignorant of a coaches responsibilities. Either way, that's too bad.

The point about the fact that Barnett didn't turn the ball over a single time in a real game and Hurts turned it over 14 times?

or

The fact that Hurts managed an offense vs Clemson that had only 2 series over 5 plays

or

The fact that Hurts had problems reading defenses before and after the snap and was very inconsistent in the intermediate and long passing game

Can you carry on a discussion or are you not capable of that?

Really, I thought the HC in College was suppose to be the mother, father, best friend and mentor to these young individuals. That is what they tell their real mothers and fathers. When this person misleads these individuals (which is what they are saying), then that coach is more concerned with himself or is a liar. Either way, that is bad.

What is the duty of the College Coach ? Please don't start quoting exerts from Saban's Book or his guru.

Saban cares about one thing. Winning. That wasn't a secret when these clowns went to Bama. They were just so full of themselves and used to being big man in high school that they probably believed the would get the job.they were wrong

What kind of bullshite is this?

How many plays did he play in real games versus the SEC POY?

There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.

quote:

The fact that Hurts managed an offense vs Clemson that had only 2 series over 5 plays

You left out the fact that Hurts managed an offense that was SEC Champion and undefeated at that point. Hmm, what were you saying about agendas?

quote:

The fact that Hurts had problems reading defenses before and after the snap and was very inconsistent in the intermediate and long passing game

He was much better than Barnett in real games and practice. FACT!!!

And as far as having a discussion about this with you, it's pointless really. You blame Hurts for the Nc game, but fail to recognize he was a true freshman, had a new OC for about 10 days before the NC and played great until the LSU game.

Your agenda has been clear since the NC loss. You want to blame Hurts. frick you. you are the definition of a Bammer.
