Kudos to UCLA for scheduling a big boy nonconference schedule, at least.
Much more palatable to do when you don’t face the gauntlet of a SEC conference schedule.

I’m sure UCLA would be shaking in their boots to play LSU

Highly unlikely.
Which raises the point - what's the furthest a preseason #1 has fallen in the major sports?
The football poll has been relatively trustworthy. Teams that have been preseason #1 have generally finished in the top 10 with a few exceptions. In the past 60 years only one team has not finished ranked - 2012 USC went 7-5 and then lost the Sun Bowl to finish 7-6 under Lane Kiffin. And that had a lot to do with the media not properly factoring the impact of probation and scholarship reductions. All of the others finished ranked and only two teams were below 15.
Basketball is similar with bluebloods dominating the list.
I don't follow college baseball enough to know what the biggest flops have been but 2026 LSU is starring down the barrel of an RPI in the 60s and there's nothing comparable in the other two sports. I know baseball is different so it wouldn't surprise me if there were other examples.
It's entirely possible that this LSU team is "special" in a way that most people are ignoring.

Greatest flop in college baseball history was last season

Big talk coming from someone who supports a team who has 1 more CWS appearance as a program in their history than the coach you’re talking about has. As well as having more title game appearances and double the nattys as your program has in their entire history.

Forgot Texas AM laid a massive turd last year.
Still though, they went 30-26 (11-19) with RPI of 50.
LSU will challenge that.

LSU isn't going to Omaha this year... unless they are on a field trip.

quote:Every team that won the CWS since 2021 (MSU) kind of flopped the following year. We pretty much lost everyone from the 2021 team (especially after our brainiac coach tried to make our lock down closer a starter). Ruined his arm first couple of weeks. Teams that win the CWS peak at the right time with special players. They move on and it's impossible to replace that quickly. LSU has plenty of players this year. I don't know the dugout but they have more talent than the record indicates.
