When regular season ends Auburn and Ole Miss should have the #1 and #2 SOSs nationally. Bama will be right there as well.

Auburn has already played 29 Q1 + Q2 games and likely will play 12 more Q1 games??

It's actually 14 more Q1 games. All remaining SEC games plus we have two more road games against top 30 opponents non-conference. 30-something Q1 games before the SECT even starts. That's insane. This sh*t is getting old. Every sport, every year we have one of the toughest, if not the toughest schedule. I'm getting sick of the "but look who we lost to" arguments every damn year. I just want to drink some beer and enjoy some wins.

Vandy could get swept by Texas and Bama, then turn around and sweep Missouri and USC to finish 15-15, which, historically, has been a lock for making the tournament, but would probably leave them with an RPI over 60. Would be interesting to see what happens.

Yeah, I think Vandy is on a path to make for an interesting debate in the selection committee room.

On one hand you will likely have an SEC team with a winning conference record. And it's a team that has been one of the most successful college baseball programs this century.

On the other hand they will have a terrible RPI and some atrocious playing stats.

Could just do what we do: schedule exactly nobody during non-con and push all your chips to the “gorilla ball, strikeouts, and defense” side of the table during conference play. It’s been working out so far these past 3 years and when we are on, it’s a lot of fun to watch downside is you have to pretend that beating up on Queens College in March is anything worth getting excited about.

Right now Warren Nolan’s projected RPI has them losing to Texas 2-1, Bama 2-1 and sweeping Mizzou and USC. They project that would result in a final RPI of 67 entering Hoover and if that manifests they likely need to either get the autobid or come up just short at the Met to have any sort of shot.

Baseball it’s not quite as much of an issue because the sample size is so big a loss here and that won’t dent you too badly, unless something absolutely catastrophic happens, like getting swept at home by a feckless Mizzou like A&M did last year.

I mean we maintain a top 5 RPI right now as a result, indicating that both Auburn and their opponents are performing extremely well, and that’s what got us a top 4 seed last year in spite of finishing sixth in the SEC overall.

If we manage to go .500 the rest of the way I would be very happy. Tough stretch of games to finish up season.

State’s RPI a little lower than it needs to be but I feel like that will take care of itself. 10 of the last 11 games against the RPI Top 10, seven of those away from Starkville. They’ve got plenty of opportunities to rise. Or they’ll lose too many of those games and be a 2 seed in Hattiesburg or somewhere like that.

Can’t afford much of a slip up against LSU this weekend. Winning 2 is the bare minimum need, and you can make a case that they need a sweep given LSU’s recent trajectory and the fact that State is still kinda trying to make up for the disasters that were the UGA and Tennessee series.

AUFANATL, you must be a young pup. I've always loved playing a tough schedule. You will have to go look up our 1983 football schedule sometime. It was absurd, but we went 11-1. Only team we lost to was a top 5 Texas team, in like week three.

I like playing the best teams. I would take Florida, LSU, and Tennessee back, along with Bama and Georgia, every year in football, in a heartbeat. Just makes the good seasons that much more magical!

Luckily for us, baseball doesn't penalize tough schedules--it rewards them. Our very young team should be battle hardened and ready to win in the postseason. War Eagle!

Respectfully asking, do you think this strategy helps win the CWS? I haven't looked it up, how many trips to cws last 3 years?
