Getting in the mood for baseball and wanted to hear your stories of past visits. Seems ticket prices have really jumped since thew move to the new stadium. Also, advice on affordable places to stay.

Went to the CWS twice, in 1997 and 1998. 1997 was awesome. I was 13 years old. We stayed at the same hotel as the team and stayed for the entire CWS. Kurt Ainsworth, who was rehabbing TJ surgery, was with the team and took me and a couple of other kids around during the week to hang out with other players. They also let us come to practice to shag balls during BP. LSU won the title that year too, so it was even more memorable.

I went in 2014 when Ole Miss made it. We drove up from Oxford and made stops at bars along the way and then stayed in the casino. Casino is fun but not the place to save money
Can’t wait for Ole Miss to go again. Hope it doesn’t take 40 years
ETA: in the fanfare area all the Ole Miss fans could be heard saying “buy up all the Omaha shirts because it might be a while”

Omaha and the CWS are fantastic, unless LSU is there.
Like everything else, the LSU fans make it obnoxious and overbearing

Been to six out of eleven college world series.
I am one of the founders and primary editors of the Wiki CWS article and am the one behind the tables noting most wins, most series finals, most appearances without a title, most wins by conference, etc.
My first series was in 1977 and my last was our last trip in 2012. I was also there for the last series played in the old Blatt and I have seats in my man cave that came out of the old Blatt.
My favorite memory is the 2010 series and the win the gave is the Championship.
Second would probably be eliminating the sheephumpers twice in Omaha.
For those that go part of the fun is attending games between other programs other than your own.
Omaha is a great city and incredible host. The locals get into it as much as the fans and the tailgating by the locals is second to none for college bsseball. You can walk around and be fed and handed drinks by the locals and it's always amazing how many locals attach themselves to teams during any given CWS.
This may sound biased but among the locals you always see a lot of them having aligned with Texas, LSU, SC, Arizona and even a few years ago some were starting to adopt UF.
It's a great experience.

Went championship weekend 2013. It was a ton of fun because it was mostly Mississippi State people by then (plenty of LSU fans still around wearing LSU shirts and State hats ) so the city felt somewhat empty.
However, next time we go to the CWS I'm going to try and make it for the first weekend so I can see what its like with fans from all teams there.
It was definitely one of the most fun trips I've made for a Mississippi State sporting event, despite the baseball.

dude, stfu. LSU baseball fans are nothing like football fans. LSU baseball fans are nothing but respectful to opposing teams. We invite players and opposing fans to tailgates. shite, we even gave Coastal Carolina a victory lap in our own stadium and have extended the same to other teams that beat us. The city of Omaha loves when LSU makes it. Your post just smells of jealousy to me.

Cost per trip?
Where did you stay?
I was supposed to go last year but health issues put an end to that. Was thinking of this year and was trying to figure out the logistics. Still on my bucket list.

Looks like you love the work!

1 Florida State 22 .397 3 1.33
2 Clemson 12 .333 0 1.00
3 North Carolina 10 .447 2 1.70
While I am happy to see Free Shoes U in the top spot number 2 and 3 just make it more awesome.

My first trip there in 77 was a road trip ... I was poor and we slept in the jeep for three days and ate pretzels, peanut butter crackers, saltines and Vienna sauges the entire trip.
Gas was expensive at the time and we made it home on fumes.
Last trip we flew out in a private plane, stayed in a rented home and our nightly meal and bar tabs between the five of us averaged over $600.
Of the five of us that made the last trip (one from Ypsi, Michigan because Eastern Michigan was there the first trip,) three of us made the first trip together forty years ago. We also attended the past two SC vs Michigan Outback Bowls together. Lifelong friends are made at early ages on road trips.
We dropped well over $20k on the last trip and with one of the guys owning his own plane and piloting for us all we had to do was pay fuel costs.
First time out we drove in a 1959 surplus Willies Jeep with no top and bald tires.

Your obvious lack of self-awareness doesn't hurt my argument

We went to the championship series in 2013. Wife and friend of mine drove out on Sunday, met two of our boys who flew in from different parts of the country. Stood in line for lottery draws both Monday and Tuesday mornings (sounds like a pain in the arse but actually kind of fun). Had a real competitive 1st game but the 2nd was a sleeper. Spent Monday and Tuesday afternoons at the Blatt, a sports bar right across the street from right field. Maroon everywhere and the 20 or so UCLA fans had a small corner room reserved. Great trip but kind of a bucket list kind of deal. I would only go back if I had a room in advance, tickets in advance and flew out there. Long and I mean long drive!!!!!

I've got plenty of self-awareness. I would actually be surprised if you had much, if any, real life experience around LSU baseball fans. It's night and day different from what you'll see at a football game. I believe you base your opinions off posters on this message board and/or that LSU wins a lot.

Been there, and usually the best memories where you are on the cheap because it is all you have.

So, 4K per person not counting you had access to a plane (guessing it would be more like 8K if you had to charter?

I remember such trips but it also included sardines as they were always cheap and popular with the Depression Era folks. Kids today have it easy with ramen noodles as a fast and cheap hot meal.
Wanted to take the kid but was trying to figure out what to budget. NCAA sends me ticket flyers for some reason for most of their sports. interesting as the lower the sport, the better the seats. I think for the CWS they were talking 2nd and 3rd level seats. You don't want the ones for M or W Final Fours as they are terrible.

Very similar to Rooster and Cheese's stories; bland, dry, hard to swallow, and no one takes them seriously.
