This is completely false. Having worked in higher ed for years I can attest to it. Football does nothing to help schools like UAB, USA, ULM etc. They are a huge financial drain and do not return the investment

"If the show was on the other foot..."

It was on the other foot when the sneaky UAB fricks hijacked the medical school away from the main campus. It would be like moving a business you spent decades building to a new city and having that city simply take it away from you, rename it, and slap their own logos on it and trying to claim you have no right or claim to said business. Heck, UAB doesn't even recognize older University of Alabama School of Medicine grads. Not a perfect analogy but it gets the point across.

Too many smart people on this board lol. Too many, I support UAB because I went there. How many of you all support Bama because you went there? Doesn't matter, I understand everyone has an opinion, but as an institution that means a lot to the state (2nd biggest employer) this is something that deserves a vote, for current students, alumni, and the city. Football has elevated the profile of the university and is currently working to dispel the shade of a commuter school parroted by retards like you. Too bad UA has no control over us like uab and cant shut us down because you don't like us.

Well then close Tech, why does N. La need three schools within 40 miles of each other.

I think Louisiana needs to close GSU for sure. It is an embarassment and keeping academic dollars from the other schools (I don't know how much it affects LSU's funding since it is in the UL system and not the LSU system). LaTech has greatly improved itself and has become a first tier university over the last decade. ULM needs to stay because its students are the ones who couldn't get into LSU or LaTech and it does a pretty good job as a commuter school. If Louisiana, shut down GSU, Southern and SUNO (which is arguably the worst 4 year school in the country) or converted them to CC's then that would be sufficient IMO.

I thought the BOT just refused to hear the proposal for the stadium?
quote:

n Tuesday, the board issued a statement saying that "most trustees feel that this is the wrong project at the wrong time." Bryant said no formal vote was taken to form that opinion, but trustees "all spoke coming out of the (September) meeting the day it was brought up."

And really, it's probably going to be better all the way around.

UAB doesn't need football and football doesn't need UAB. It's not a fit and never was.

Not too many tears will be wept away by UAB students or any other normal people when their failed experiment comes to a halt.

The University of Alabama is a generous and wise parent and is helping its petulant child to find its way.

Initially it will be painful for auNeck fans.

The Opelika fans are really the only ones who seem to care one way or another. I've yet to meet any UAB alumni or alumnae or current student who gives a single whit about the football program.

Go Blazers!

At least spread a little sunshine to disinfect the shadowy dealings of the BoT. Let a public vote be on record--- instead of Bryant Jr. saying, "well, we had a few comments about it."

It is interesting that money for a new soccer field was accepted before the Bill Carr "Study" is complete, but they would not take private facility investment for the football program because the study was not complete.

Bama stops UAB from hiring Jimbo

quote:

What has happened this month to UAB, however, is an outrage. Essentially, Little Bear's Board of Trustees blocked UAB from hiring the football coach it wanted. Twice. And the second time, Little Bear's Board stopped UAB from hiring the coach it wanted because, presumably, the coach UAB wanted -- Jimbo Fisher -- might also be wanted by Alabama.

UA School Newspaper

quote:

We need to tell the Board to allow UAB to make their own decisions. It is not okay to ignore or worse, sabotage, the sports of the other campuses. The Board of Trustees has gone to far against UAB. We must draw a line in the sand and say this is enough.

So quick recap --- chance to hire Jimbo squashed

Stadium proposal not even given the courtesy of a vote

Your own University School Newspaper can see this wrong. There is no shame in admitting it. It is not like you are the one blocking proposal and trying to quietly bury the program.

Again, a lot of this comes down to an inherent sense of fairness.

The BoT is supposed to look out for the interests of ALL the campuses it represents. IMO, it has failed in that regard.

Feel free to disagree, but all I can offer is the evidence available --- I doubt anyone has it on tape where Bryant Jr. actually said F--K those Blazers.
