Those are like less than 400 bucks. It would be a nice gift for a high school team.

Cool gift but don't most of those guys already have those?

Has precedent, not a violation, not a story.

Are there any rules in place to stop any former players from dropping however much money he wants on his former team mates?
I remember when some were mad when Peyton bought a bunch of pizzas for his teammates while at UT.

How is it not a violation? Honest question and not a troll. Gifts are a violation plain and simple unless he had them repay him. Wasn't it Jones and Engram that went on the fishing trip in Mobile and had to repay the guy even though Jones knew him for a long time or something?

Bama players also all come from family's that can buy them customized new dodge chargers and tahoes while they're in college.

Because teams always get gifts during bowl games. Lots of gifts, go look them up.
The only thing that has to be done is they have to be approved before hand. Kind of like people can take players out to dinner and such, but it has to be approved before. If you don't get it approved, then it's a violation.
Clemson's team also got them I read, but I'm not sure from what source.

None of those guys were his team mates. And if former players dropping gifts is okay, then Arkansas is about to become a huge SEC power as a former Hogs running back suddenly has the ability to give gifts.

Welcome to bowl rules. I still remember back in the like '99 when I knew some Bama and UT players hearing the stories then, and it's an even bigger deal now. I think it was UT that got PS1s, clothes, shoes, and all sorts of other promos. All the players had PS1s so those all went on eBay. And if you made your own way to the bowl you were paid mileage. So, 6 players jam into one car, split the has bill, and get a collective $3 per mile.
I can't remember exactly which year 98, 99, or 2000, but between mileage and selling swag every player made as much as $2k, which when not reported for taxes is a lot of money for a 18-21 year old.
They have a financial limit for gifts but that limit has risen and the vendors fudge the numbers down a bit to get the players more stuff. I seem to recall talk of some of the sports type clothes players got being valued at only a few dollars when it was probably ten times that on the store shelves.
I imagine with Bama having 2 bowls this year he players are probably elbow deep in stuff. Everything is by the rules so long as everything comes in the form of items from NCAA advertisers and sponsors. The NCAA wants players promoting these sponsors, it's part of the wink wink nod nod deal of them buying advertising for amateurs.
