It's not like the players text him and say "hey coach, we're about to torch this blunt, better hurry if you want in the rotation". Obviously he doesn't know when and where they smoke, but he KNOWS that some of his players smoke.
I told you a CURRENT PLAYER told me face to face that he tells them just be smart about it.

I think that their policies are lax compared to others because they don't place a high emphasis on it. Busting kids for smoking a bowl isn't (and shouldn't be) a priority for a football team.

I'm sorry but I just find it hard to believe that Saban being the tyrant that he is, would just tell players to be cool with their weed smoking.

And what did you learn?
My first semester at UA I got smashed the night before two CS101 tests at 8am and missed both of them. First time I told my teacher I had food poisoning and couldn't make it and told her the second time it happened again. She let me make them up after the final.
After that I never drank before tests again.

Two of the dumbest things a college student can say are "I think I'll get high and then go to class" and "I'll just stay up all night and study for my 8 am test."

Who gives a crap about pot, really? As long as they're not doing cocaine or other serious hard drugs, it shouldn't be an issue. Let them do what they want.

He's not an idiot. Do you really think if Saban said "Yall are forbidden to smoke, period. Don't do it" that nobody would? These are 18-21 year old college kids living on their own. It's inevitable that they will smoke, so at least he tells them to not be a dumbass about it.

What sucks is that I don't really drink all that much. I went out to eat with a girl at Phil's on the strip and we wound up drinking a lot more than we had anticipated. We then proceeded to walk across the street to the Houndstooth to finish the process of getting drunk. Fun times.

This actually worked for me this past finals week. I had 3 8ams in a row so I would stay up all night and take it then go home, sleep, wake up that evening and repeat.

Not hardly but he should still say it. That way his arse is covered as opposed to if he said "I know ya'll are going to smoke so just be cool with it."

I lived there summer of 09. Can't remember the room number but I lived on the top floor the room all the way on the end on the east side.
