You seriously don’t think coaches talk to sources?

This staff doesn't give ANY information out, zero, other than standard coach speak. DeBoer's press conferences are big bunch of word-nothings, and the assistant coaches are about the same. Granted, that's not a bad thing to keep everything internal and close to the vest. They haven't been in camp long enough for any material development to have occurred.

Any freshman worth his salt can come in and throw good against air, which I'm sure is what's going on right now. But the true measure of development will be when he gets into live reps with a defense in his face.

You are very naive if you seriously think no information is privately discussed by coaches , players, and other support staff. Do you even realize there are connected practice observers ? Hell , there are private message boards that include ex players and other connected individuals. Just because they don’t post on trash talk forums doesn’t mean they don’t post at sll.

Ive seen Duncanville play a dozen times while Russell was there, and count him out at your own risk. Guy is a grown man

He's better than Simpson

Simpson is the clear cut starting QB, but their back up looks just like Jayden Daniels out there. Have we ever seen a teams QBs go 1 and 2 in the Heisman race?

How in the world do these two sentences even go together?

I keep hearing that a lot. Thanks for the input, considering you’ve seen him a lot

I have also heard Russell may be the starter by the end of the year. If Simpson is good enough to hold him off, Simpson is probably good enough to go pro after the season. This is, after all, his 4th year. By nearly all the reliable sources, Russell will start in 2026. Reportedly he understands that he needs to keep developing, is very coachable, and has a great relationship with Grubb.

Yep, I know all of that. But you're not going to get that from a poster on a free message who says "he knows a guy" or "I've been told he's developing well". Most people who say they have "inside information" are full of crap.

He's "developing well" against air. I doubt he's had to throw a pass with a rusher coming at him. We'll know more when they start playing scrimmages and information starts to leak. But as of now, there's no way anyone can say "he's developing well".

Agreed. The kid may be elite but it's impossible to know at this point.

For the record, I say the same things to LSU fans who think DJ Pickett already looks like an elite corner.

There are Bama fans already annointing him the starter and he's yet to take one snap in a scrimmage game, much less a regular season game. There was a quarterback years ago when Saban first got to Bama named Blake Barnett. He came in with a lot of hype, everyone just knew he was going to be "the guy" and when he got into a real game he soiled his pants and couldn't cut it in live action. I'm not saying this will be the case with Russell, but no one knows how good a player is until they're in live action situations like full scrimmages or live games. Outside of that, it is blind speculation.

Saban arrived at Alabama in 2007. Barnett arrived in 2015.

Your knowledge astounds me.

Hoping we would compare him to Jordan Jefferson?

Could be worse. Could be pinning our hopes on a proven turnover machine.

No doubt my memory is suspect at my stage in life but the point is still valid. Blake Barnett was touted as coming in and being the next great thing and he ended up being nothing. I'll say it again, until they go through live reps you don't know what you have, regardless of the physical talent.

Probably from the couple of weeks of practice.
