To add, the ref was staring directly at the Jones assault and not even a flag.

Honestly I don't think the refs missed a single late hit. All of those hits but one were bam-bam type plays. I thought maybe there could be a helmet to helmet penalty that wasn't called, their refusal to respot the ball at the 1.5 yard line was terrible, and Arky got called for a holding on its only big run of the day while I don't think Bama got any holding calls. The refs clearly did not cost us the game or anything, but they could have definitely been better, but I feel like I say that after every SEC game.

Dude, read between the lines. This is a thread intended for Alabama's rivals to bash them. There's no place for reasonable talk here. Hell, if you get down to it, there's no place for Arkansas fans here.

I view hits that put the QB on his arse like fouls in a basketball game. Sometimes you get a ref that calls every handcheck. So, you back off. Sometimes you get a ref that will let you mix it up. So, you shove, push, and pull on jersies. Same thing in football. If that late hit had been called in the first quarter, Bama would have backed off. They didn't, and Bama kept putting Wilson on his arse every play.

That's about the best description of it that you can get. Bama basically got a green light to tee of on Wilson when nothing was called early. Can't blame them for taking advantage of it.

You mean that is a loss for your team.

Arky got called for holding because #79 was holding.

Imagine that! Another thread started by a LSU fan complaining about officiating in Bama games! And we don't even play for another five weeks.

I only saw one blatant late hit on the QB and it was correctly called by the official.

Saban, when he was here at LSU, used the phrase "affect the quarterback" which I interpreted to mean that his defenders would hit the qb at every legal opportunity and also push the boundaries of a 'legal hit'.

Watching the Bama game yesterday I saw exactly that. He even used that exact phrase in the post-game interview ("affected the QB").

Hard nosed intensity right at the limits of the rules.

I respect Saban's style and coaching ability but don't regret his leaving LSU.

Clearly Saban pay his boys to go headhunting.
